CFR's with cat
« on: December 22, 2016, 12:12:58 AM »

I love just about everything about my new Street Glide except for the sound. Steve at Fullsac was great and did the 2 1/4 baffles on my mufflers but that still just didnt work for me and I have been waiting for them to come out with the header so I could do the entire system as well as the TTS tune. I have been reading all the info about Harley voiding warranties if you change exhaust and tune and it has been bugging me since I got the bike. I spoke the the service Mgr at my dealer who I have a great relationship with and he promised me they would take care of me if I did have an issue after doing a system but I still can't get comfortable with it especially since I am now putting in my 4th motor in my Roadglide (sold 110 to get 120r, blew up 120r and put in 124, fastener came loose in bottom end which cracked case and spun crank on 124 so now waiting for new 124 which should be in next week) even though I have the 7 yr warranty which obviously won't cover a S&S motor. Every bike I have ever owned (9) I have chased the power and even on this bike I did the stage 3 117 kit before I even picked it up but a few weeks ago I decided on this bike I wanted to make sure I got the full advantage of the 7 yr warranty I bought with the bike. I have always loved the sound of the CFR's but would never buy them because of the performance characteristics while "chasing that power".
Since I am not going to tune this bike now and I hate the way it sounds, I thought CFR's might just be the answer but I was worried with that cat in even they would sound horrible. Good news is I had the CFR's installed this morning and though they certainly aren't as loud as the Boarzilla's on my RG, they sound great. They have the deep rumble that I have always thought sound amazing on the CFR's and though I would still have liked them to be louder (Yea, I am very immature when it comes to my bikes..) I think this is the ticket for me to be completely happy with this bike. Also look great, I will post pics in the next day or so

When changing my exhaust, just for kicks I started it with stock head pipe and no mufflers at all. It sounded basically the same with or without mufflers. You will never get the sound you desire with the cats in place.

if you want to keep the warranty - don't bother removing the cat... or changing the mufflers.. are pretty much anything else in the engine.

if you remove the cat - forget the warranty..

14. Denial of Warranty.
a. Defendants shall deny all warranty claims for functional defects of powertrain components for any Harley-Davidson vehicle (Model Year 2017 or later) registered in the United States, if any Defendants have any
information to show that such vehicle was tuned using a Tuning Product that was not covered by a California ARB Executive Order or otherwise approved by EPA

Actually sounds great (not loud enough) with them. Who knows, I might end up saying "screw it" and doing a entire system which is what I have always done in the past and maybe I am trying to talk myself into it but I think that deep rumble sound that they do make is something I can live with..

Maybe those CFR's will loosen up a bit soundwise once they've got some miles on them.

You must be related to a buddy of mine with the troubles you have with engines. Only difference is his are in his boat and run about $25k every time he trashes one.

WERE THERE ANY ISSUES MOUNTING THE RIGHT SIDE CFR PIPE? THOUGHT THE RIGHT SIDE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LARGER IN DIAMETER WITH THE STOCK HEADER?

I celled them directly originally to see if they had the pipes yet for the 17. Cary Faas himself answered the phone (really nice and informative guy) and told me he had a set ready to go so I bought them. I had heard all the stories about taking forever for delivery so I might have just got lucky.

(623) 374-3759, Gaye was the one that Cary had take the order. website is www.cfrmotorcycles.com
They sound great though still not as loud at idle as I personally like. When you "hit it' they sound terrific. Very low bassy growl.
Also to be clear, I like really loud pipes. Today I was riding down a side street about 25 mph and I was setting off all the parked car alarms so I think if the people walking down the street heard me say that the pipes aren't as loud as I like they would think i was nuts. Remember my other bike has Boarzilla's with a S&S 124 and certainly no cat..
