Help with updating the BOOM! software
« on: December 29, 2016, 10:40:48 PM »

OK, I have to admit this is the first time I have tried upgrading any software on an HD.  Done it many times to my Kenwood system in my '08 Ram, and I am a long time computer geek.  I cannot get any of my flash drives to recognize on the bike.  I have tried USB 2 and 3, FAT 32 and NTFS formatting, and cannot get them to be seen either on boot, connecting while running, or trying to navigate to media on the screen.  I can, however, make the radio see my iPhone.  What the H E double hockey sticks is going on?  Any ideas?

On your computer, did you open the downloaded zip file and transfer to your flashdrive only the larger of the two unzipped files?  If so, it should work.

I unzipped too, I think. I think most modern PC's operating systems do that when you extract the file and drag it to your flash drive.

Something to note, make sure you have the .iso for your bike. CVO's will only recognize the correctly named file. you can rename the file on your PC before you transfer it to your flash drive.

Fat32 is correct, btw

Yes, the unzipping worked.  The instructions on Harley's site do say to "copy the file within the zipped folder to the root directory (the first or top most directory in a file system) of a USB flash drive that is 8 GB or larger".  I guess had I read that more closely, I would have extracted the files.  RTFM right?

Had this issue when first tried to import rout on '16 SERGU, called MOCO and was advised to format USB drive. Sounded too simple, but that did the trick. Maybe try that and reload software

The same thing happened to me.
Silly me for following HD's crappy and incomplete advice to the letter!   :confused5:
Once I unzipped the file and then put those files in the root directory of my FAT32-formatted SD card, and plugged that into my SD Card to USB adapter, the upload worked seamlessly.

Big DOH!  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/Smileys/CVO/oops.gif    With a smack to the forehead for me.  Now if I can just get it to take the map update, still not cooperating.
