LED headlight fault
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:49:57 PM »

I'm asking for a mate of mine who has a problem with a new LED headlight.
The issue is that when he plugs the LED in the high beam light comes on. Does he need a conversion harness?
BTW. It's on a Breakout.    Any info appreciated

Are you sure this light is for a Harley application? What happens when he turns on the high beam? If the low beam comes on, then it may just be simpler to splice and reconnect the wires. If nothing comes on then you may have a different problem altogether.

We had discussed switching the wire's around  haven't heard back from him yet. I'll ask him if it is a Harley application I assumed he would have ordered or his breakout this is the second lamp he had the same thing with a lamp he got first time round, he thought there was a fault with the lamp so he sent it back but the second one's doing the same thing.

Don't forget on most of these LED lamps the hi-beam is the lower half bulbs, and the low-beam is the upper half bulbs.  It's usually pretty obvious once it's installed but if he plugged it in and just held it in hand he may not realize how it lights. It's sort of counterintuitive.

Thanks for the input all  :2vrolijk_21: . My friend informed me today his light is up and working.
It seems that he had washed the bike a couple of days prior to changing the lamp last week and he hadn't touched it since till this weekend. He thinks there must have been some moisture and since then it's dried out now its working fine.

Ask if he used dielectric grease on the plug connector.   If he did not, he should.

Good thought, I'll pop the question   :2vrolijk_21:

None that comes to mind,..... but I do believe that some require a CONVERSION harness  ;)

I believe he is talking about the wire harness that is on the headlight that hooks to two bulbs tougher if you don't have it that's a $50.00 dollar part that in mind if you guys buy a used take out make sure you get all parts that bucket is another 50 now talking about the halogen  I bought a dual beam headlight that didn't have the bucket or harness is hoe I found out but that was ok got it cheap just wanted a spare I gave less for it than just one replacement bulb
