500 CCA battery
« on: January 28, 2017, 04:33:43 PM »

Others may have seen this before but I had not.  Bigger CCA rating than I'd found available previously in what you can tell from the ad seems a legit battery.  Still less expensive than the Harley branded battery from the dealership.  Just ordered one for the old Road Glide as it needs a new one this spring.

The SEUC is also due for one in the Spring.  Seems like a great use of the Amazon gift card I got for Christmas.  Thanks, Don!

Assuming it is not for some reason crap a battery with more CCA is just always a good thing.  Especially when the stockers aren't that great to begin with.  :2vrolijk_21:

Made in the USA, so it's not one of those cheapo Chinese batteries with inflated CCA numbers.  The customer reviews I've looked at online are excellent, with only a very few negative reviews concerning early failure.  In the current state of the battery industry, a few early failures seem to be normal with all brands.

I've attached a sales brochure with more detailed info for anyone interested.

Had seen the materials before doing the "one click" Jerry.  It's just an unfortunate bad habit to assume at least the potential for crap anymore from manufacturers one doesn't have experience with.

This spring will be my 3rd year using this same battery. No issues at all with it.

My standard replacement cycle for batteries on a bike is at the end of its third year.  That's easier than push starting a nearly half ton bike and cheaper than a tow.  Hopefully the manufacturers will stay good enough the three year cycles can last.

Wow, I've been going more like 5 years or longer.

So, this is the first non-Harley battery I've bought.  What's a good way to get rid of he used one?  Usually just give it to the parts guy to recycle.

That (giving it to parts guy) or returning it to a local battery vendor (I returned a couple to a local vendor and he actually gave me some $$ for returning/recycling them).

BTW... you and me both... unless I have a failure I've gone +5 years (or more) before a replacement... I (as you probably do) keep my bike on a battery tender whenever it is parked so tend to extend the purchase/need to replace them. :nixweiss:

I do the battery tender also.  Used to do four years but stopped that cycle several years ago when two failed during their fourth year.  1/4th or 1/3rd the price of a battery just isn't worth the risk of damage that "WeBad Towing" or some other random service might do or potentially dropping a bike during a push start.  I'll do push starts (well, slight downhill starts) and not worry about it too much when the situation warrants.  But if it can be avoided I'll gladly do so.

Modern batteries too often just give no warning.  Seemingly good one morning and nonfunctional two starts later and 300 miles from home on some otherwise gorgeous nice Saturday ride.  Screw that.  I'm too old and have enough extra pocket change that a battery is better than the potential hazard.

Oh yeah, the 3 year olds that come out then live in the riding lawn mower for a couple years (if I'm lucky) and in a couple of other gadgets around the yard.
