Was wondering if anyone uses anything but cometic est top end gaskets?  Seems about every 15k miles i lose a base gasket on my 117 with harley cases and s&s jugs. First time was the rear.  Now after the next 15k its the front. Plus i was looking at the cometic website and now they don't even show 4.125 gasket sets.  I was using the c9976 it won't even come up on a search now.  except at other dealers.  I need to find my old box to find out exactly what i used last time but think it was the .40 head and .20 base.

Thanks.  I was just looking for the top end set.  Also to see if anyone used any other type of gasket and had any better luck.  Not sure why right at about 15k one of the base gaskets go out.

Are you installing them without any kind of sealer?

For the 110 I sell Cyco gasket sets wit Cometic head and HD base orings

No i haven't ran any sealer.  Used to use indian head on some of my older motors.  wasn't sure about using some type of sealant on the newer ones with base gaskets.

I can't run the orings.  since i am 4.125 bore

Try that next time.  That's what I use on my 120.  Not a problem in three years.

There is nothing wring with some permatex aviation on the base gaskets conservatively or a bead of loctite 518 and no base gaskets. I assume the oring recesses are still intact, use those.
