Oil catch can
« on: January 29, 2017, 01:34:23 PM »

Anyone venting the motor on the cvo  breakouts to a catch can instead of back into the motor? I have seen it done on other TC engines, just wondering if anyone had done it on our bikes. Really have not had a chance to look at and around that throttle body cover to see if it can even be done (damn work schedule)

I'd say it doesn't matter what bike you have.  Do the external breather.

Good info: http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/Overview-of-External-Breather-Systems-EBS-DK-FAQ-EBS.htm

That is indeed the idea. Just curious how it would work out with the TB chrome cover with the elite heavy breather air cleaner. Thats why I posted in the BO section, not sure how many other CVOs have that cover. Would go poke my head around the bike right now but I'm no where near home

Many have done this. You do not need a catch can as there should just be very little vapor passing if the motor is in good health. You can fabricate the system with male pipe x male barbed fittings and hose. Do not tee them together and do not use a filter on the end. This is all auto parts store items, very reasonable.
If you have to buy a kit the Kuryakyn bluegrass breather kit fills the bill

I don't have a can on my 124",just vented to the bottom of the bike.on a properly running motor, you will get nothing out but ait & a VERY slight mist of oil.nothing to leak residue or a spot

Went looking for the Kuryakyn bluegrass breather kit but the info I've found doesn't show it fitting the CVO Breakout. Doesn't seem right. Misprint?

Looks like the kits lists several bikes that it wont fit, ours being one of them. Unless I missed something.

I still have to get around and take a closer look, but I can see the elite heavy breathers thottle body shroud/cover that is part of the backing plate maybe being an issue

Good articles on breather bypass & catch cans.

Research under Intake/Exhaust.

You can do it yourself with very little work.

I did it on my CVO Ultra & it work great!

Here is a link that may help you. You will need to do some research there is no bolt on kit. You will need to make some modifications. SneakyPete did a real nice job on his breather system. Not a heavy breather air filter but the mods would be very similar.

Did this fit up as well. Works great. Only suggestion is to make sure you use some gaskets on the head breather bolts. When I originally did mine it weeped a little oil from where the bolts enter the heads. Made up some gaskets and problem solved.
