GPX file is a GPX file....I thought
« on: February 02, 2017, 08:02:21 PM »

Found this great website: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input

If you plan a route on Google maps, then copy and paste web address in box where it tells you too. it converts Google Maps file to a GPX file.

Issue is, when I go to import the converted Google Maps GPX file, it shows on my screen and says it was imported to unit, but never shows up in GPS.

When I create ride in crappy HD Ride Planner (also a GPX file) i import it and it shows up in GPS as a route. I have tried to import the converted Google Maps GPX file into HD Ride Planner and it finds it and starts to import it, but just keeps spinning the hour glass. Weird.

Anyone have any idea why GPX file from Google does not show up, but GPX file from Ride Planner does?

I am downloading the file form GPS Visualizer, changing the name to the ride location, then moving is to my USB stick to import into the bike. I can find it in USB, select it and it says "added to Nav". Then I go to "Where to", "more", "Trips" and it does not show up there like an imported Ride Planner route does

What did you name the file I have read some reports that the infotainment system does not like some special characters  and long file names also you did leave the GPX EXT.  When u used GPS Visualizer you did change the output from TEXT to GPX at the top of the page.

Definitely used "GPX" in visualizer.  Name was not long, "meet spot to CH"

I just created a test, I'll name it one word and see what happens.

Ok, crated ride on Google, used visualizer and saved as GPX file. Renamed it "test". Moved to USB stick, transfered it on bike and same thing, says route was imported to Nav, but it never shows up in "Rides". So strange

It looks like visualizer is creating a track not a route.  You might try to look under "Trails" in the Boom menu.

Thanks for the help, just looked there....nothing. Going to try Google route and adding a waypoint. Also going to try a different USB stick even though it works seamlessly when I plan rout in crappy Ride Planner

Been following this thread to see where it went.  As typical with the Ride Planner, it leaves owners with a LOT to be desired.
If you're looking for full featured, free GPS software that uses Google Maps, and does a fine job, check this site out:  http://www.tyretotravel.com/
Several of us who will be attending the Eureka Springs Get Together are using it now instead of Ride Planner, and I for one couldn't be happier.

I just installed Tyre, looks overwhelming at first, but with a little paying around, seems like I can get to like it, if......I created a start and end point, but I tried to drag the route, like you do in Ride Planner or Google and I cannot adjust it like that. So, if you can not customize routes, it is kind of useless, anyone know what I am missing>

Put your cursor on the route, then click and hold left mouse button down, then pull the route to where you want it to go.  Do it slowly and methodically and this will install a new waypoint.  Then you can either delete other waypoints in the route or continue to add new ones by clicking and dragging on an existing route.  It works just fine that way.
Hey, if it didn't have all the right features, I wouldn't be using it to design the routes for the 2017 Eureka Springs Get Together.  I've been using GPS software for many years now, and this program really does work, plus it lets you name every waypoint, something Harley obviously never thought of.
I've also found that using Google Maps via this software is faster than using Google Maps in its own tab.  Don't know why, but there you go.
It's like any software, you have to give it time.  It is definitely not useless software, so play with it a little before passing judgement.

Thanks, tried your recommendation, route won't move, went to settings and "drag route" under Google maps is checked off. I still am not able to adjust my routes in Tyre. I am frustrated. Is there a channce this is because I am only using the free version?

Well, actually, no.  The free version only lacks a few things that the paid version brings to the table.
I couldn't help but notice that you've only had the software for about two hours.  These things take time and patience.  I can virtually guarantee that this software is lightyears beyond the Ride Planner stuff, and others will agree.
As far as dragging a route like you can in Google maps, I don't know of any GPS stand alone software that allows you to "drag" a route, and lets the software create a whole new section of route for you.  The reason for that is that GPS software takes it's route-building queues from the waypoints or locations you enter.  Without entering enough waypoints, you will have a route that kind of goes where it wants to.  The method I described to you earlier is for moving a portion of the route to accomodate a new waypoint.
If you want to create a route from scratch, the myrouteapp software is the bomb, and it is very easy to use.  If you're importing a route created with some other software and you're trying to redirect a portion of that existing route, use my method to create a series of new waypoints, and delete previously entered waypoints that are no longer where you want to go.
Perhaps the Google GPS tool allows you to "route" an entire section automatically, but then you'd still want to double check the route it created automatically, and re-route certain sections to take you specifically where you want to go.  GPS software is much the same.
Just make sure you put your waypoints just after each turn to a different highway number.  This is true for any GPS software, and forces the software to go the exact way YOU want it to go.
Hope this helps.

Wow, you were right, after playing around with it, i finally figured out that after adding a waypoint, you need to "add it to itinerary" I was then able to drag the route to adjust. I then saved the file as both a .TRF file and a .GPX file. I added to my USB stick and Harley was able to see only the GPX file. Makes sense as Boom uses Garmin. Did route preview and all stops on my route in Tyre were listed on the route. I love the Road Book tab in Tyre as it lists all the turns and stops.

Now I just have to play with the program to find all that is does.

Goodbye Ride Planner, Thanks for all the assistance! :cucumber:

OK, played with this for the last two days. It is full of awesome tools and options. However, I am disappointed a bit. The main reason I hate HD ride planner is that when you adjust your route, it drops in a waypoint. That makes following the route on the bike difficult as you now have many "stops" added to your route. Google Maps does not add a waypoint if you adjust the route. Tyre uses Google maps, so just confused as why Tyre adds the waypoints like HD Ride planner and does not act like Google Maps even though it used Google Maps.
