My Poor Motorcycle

I'm real good at taking stuff apart. Most of the time, I can get it back together too.

It all started with just a few shiny new bolts.....

The rear end teardown wasn't part of the original plan.

I pulled the rear fender out so I could cover most of it with some of that 3M clear paint protection film like they put on the front of high-end cars. I found a local guy who would sell me some of the film, and I wanted to cover all the areas on the side and top of the fender where all the harnesses rub and scar up the paint.

The installation of the film was a bit difficult due to the compound curves of the fender, but the areas covered are generally out of sight. Overall, I'm pleased, and now the fender won't get all abraded from rubbing cables.

I think I'm going to take the bike in to get the top of the saddlebags covered, and maybe the fairing to prevent the inevitable chips I got on the other one.

The main project is the bolt swap. I'm waiting for the case bolts to show up, and when they get here, I can start putting it back together. It's getting a chrome inner primary and SS fuel lines.

It didn't look too bad until the back end came out for the 3M film.

Without a doubt, you ALL do. I'm a rookie at it compared to the rest of the gang on here.

The visible stuff is getting the polished 12-point treatment. Some hidden stuff also, like the case bolts behind the primary and the transmission pan. You can see some of the transmission bolts, so I went ahead and did the others, just for consistency. I guess now I'll need to carry some mirror tiles to put under the bike when I park it.

I'm very sure of one thing here. If my wife  came out to the garage and my new Jester was all apart like that.......all hell would break loose. I did that with the RK just to give it a once a year tear down for cleaning etc....  You'd thought I'd destroyed the bike or something.

:huepfenlol2:  Yeah, I wanted to ask, "What's wifey think of that?" earlier.

Didn't Chief say before that he goes in the basement to work on the bike and wifey leaves him alone? Now I can understand why. :nervous: :huepfenlol2:

AJ,
Are you getting concerned w/his bike tore down like that? ;) :huepfenlol2: My guess is he'll have it tore down a couple more times before it's ready to leave for Hot Springs. :apple: :pepper: :cherry:
