BushTec trailer hitch...
« on: February 17, 2007, 09:53:45 PM »

I contacted BushTec and asked if the FLH vertical receiver fits my CVO. They said not a problem. However, a friend of mine got one in and measured the width and guess what. . .no match. Apparently the hitch is one inch too narrow. He was going to double check with the hitch in hand, but so far I don't know what the result is. Has anyone hooked up this hitch to the FLHTCUSE2?? What modifications did you do? I need to order one soon for the riding season and I'm on a need to know. Any one out there, please jump in with your two cents worth. Thanks.

You guys might want to PM Tbone...he's got some kind of nice hitch on his 06, and his trailer is a Bushtec, if I'm not mistaken.  His hitch is hidden when not in use... :nixweiss:

Hey guys,
I do have the Bushtec vertical reciever hitch installed on my 06, I can't imagine it wouldn't fit the 07.  I actually had it installed at the Bushtec factory, so I don't know if they used some sort of spacers or not but it's on there and works great.  They also installed the H-D chrome V-rail to cover the gap between the hitch and the bottom of the fender.  Here's a pic...  :2vrolijk_21:

Nice stealth hitch, where do you plug the wiring in? And how about safety chain(s)? And does the stinger fit tight or does it rattle like they do on a truck hitch?

I have one thats been on an 04 and is now on my 06.  See no reason it wouldn't fit an 07.

Thanks Rooster,
The plug for the wiring is velcroed right under the mount, see pic, I drew a circle around it.  The safety chain clips to the bottom of the hitch pin.  The stinger makes no noise at all and attaches inside the reciever with a lock pin.

they also have a bolt and lock nut that eliminates the rattle.

The Way The Hitch is designed- Three Parts- Two that attach to the Fender Rails and then Attach the third Hitch reciver to the fender struts under the rear fender. The Chrome V-rail is just a filler you need on the CVO as the Regular Ultr has a bumber guard.

Call The folks at Bushtec and they will tell you first hand if it will fit an 07. They will NOT sell it to you John Preston would not allow that to happen.

Use Caution whatever trailer hitch you install when wiring it to use a Isolator without it you can overload your bikes electric system and cause the Check engine light to light or cause rough running trouble. I used a prewire plug to go between the isolator and the rear stock wiring. That way I did not have to cut the OEM wiring. If I need to remove the Hitch and wiring I can just unplug the isolater and replug the stock wire back together.

Thanks Tbone, I'll have to look into this one further. I had a hitch doc on my old wide glide, and then a chromeworks one on my road king, But it is always showing there, so this looks much cleaner when not using the trailer. I have a compact tent trailer that was made in Canada and is no longer made but is similar to the Kwik Kamp that a lot of Gold Wingers have been towing for years. However, they went out of business as well but I understand someone is building them again on a one by one basis. I have been pulling it for about six years now. It's nice to have all of your gear and be able to sleep off of the ground. Terry

Terry,
Bushtec makes there hitch with either their hitch pin or a standard ball so they should be able to fix you up.  Just give them a call, John and his folks are great to work with.
