LED rear lights upgrade
« on: February 15, 2017, 04:03:59 PM »

Installed an upgrade of LED rear lights think they turned out better than I expected. A big improvement from the old one signal tail light.
I'VE been looking for  lighting that I could install on the T/P but couldn't find anything that would work on the older leather wrapped version of the 07 Ultra T/P so i settled for the LED's

Nice!   :2vrolijk_21:  I especially like the way the extra light reflects off your rear, "safety flag."    :huepfenlol2:    :huepfenlol2:

Sorry!  I couldn't resist.   :nixweiss:   I agree that you can't have too much light to the rear.

I just thought you were being environmentally responsible and wiping the road as you burn rubber around the beautiful English countryside, Pete.... ;D :huepfenjump3: :huepfenlol2:

As for lighting, that looks great and Greg is correct...you cannot have enough lighting on the back of the bike.  There has to be enough so those folks texting/putting on make-up/fiddling with the radio have something that can catch their eye as they careen toward our bikes at the stop signs/red lights... :nervous:

You mention in the first post that you couldn't find a light bar for the older leather Tour Pak?
There are many old threads about putting an LED light bar from Custom Dynamics on those older leather ones. It was an easy mod since there is a connector already for the wires from the LED light bar. You just call Custom Dynamics and tell them how long you want the bar and wiring, they will custom make it for you. It's installed by just cleaning the leather with alcohol and sticking the bar on with supplied tape backing then you choose to drill one hole in pack to run wires inside or just run wires from outside pak over the lip of bottom section (maybe protect with tape etc. to get wires inside)
Many members who had 2006 -2007 CVOs did this mod, most with red lens LED but I did mine with clear lens with red bulbs. It really got people's attention when they were behind you especially cars since they had trouble seeing stock brake lights down low if they were near you. I also used LED saddlebag spoiler light to get lighting higher and spread out somewhat.
If you notice that if any vehicle has their lights grouped together it tends to merge at a distance and that makes it harder to gauge distance. Lights that are spread out don't merge together as easily.
Here is a shot of my 2006 with the clear LED bar between the antennas. Sorry I don't have a night shot but the old threads about increasing rear lighting should have photos of other bikes at night.

:huepfenlol2: that's good Howard, but I was thinking of putting it on a roller that I could trip when I'm at full throttle passing a speed camera  ::) :P

Thanks VaEagle,  Don't know if Custom Dynamics can help me in the UK but I'll look around. Now I'VE seen what can go on there I'll go with that. Cheers  :2vrolijk_21:

Played around a little more today. I added a remote control color change LEDs for the motor. Pics aren't great taken at close range in the garage

I dig the LEDs.  Really would like to get something going underneath my tank to highlight the motor.

Thanks for the heads up VaEagle, found what you mentioned it comes under www.harleycustom.co.uk for custom dynamics. I'm going to go for the Tail/Stop and amber turn LED bar. I'll be giving them a call tomorrow. Mite even go for the side bag one's as well, not sure yet.
