Progressive monotube 31-4000 fst install question
« on: March 19, 2017, 12:12:14 PM »

I was wondering if anyone has installed the progressive monotube suspension part#31-4000on there 14 or newer cvo limited? This is the kit with only one shock and one spring for the front. My question is. Do you need to remove the seals and separate both parts of the fork to install? I have watched many videos and some say yes you do and others say no. Looks like you reuse the stock bottoming cup. Any advise would be appreciated so I know if I have to buy seals before I start the project.

Hi,

Did you install the kit yet?  I'm installing one on my 2014 Limited.  I followed the instructions and the progressive video and pulled the upper tubes out of the lowers, but I think you can do this without pulling them apart.   Keep the forks compressed to keep the bottoming cup seated and replace the parts as instructed.  If the bottoming cup becomes dislodged, it will probably be hard getting it back in place without pulling the tubes apart.

Also, the left fork assy. is longer then the right.  That will make it hard to get the axle back in.  One tech said to try to jack the left fork up and another said to pull down on the right fork.  I have had no luck with either suggestion.  I'm going to try to leave the left fork loose and assemble the front wheel and see what happens.
