2016 CVO Street Glide - Charging System?
« on: March 27, 2017, 07:43:59 AM »

Hello everyone. Does anyone know off hand the charging system output for a stock 2016 CVO Street Glide? I've added the lower fairing speakers and would like to install aux lights and fogs. I want to make sure I am going to have enough charging capacity for the additional installations.

I live very rural and deer are a HUGE problem out here. I ran over 2 last year on my Electra Glide. Kept the shiny side up, thank goodness. But with the new toy, I am not taking any chances. I want it to look like daylight when driving on back roads at night. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Zak! But check this out. Looks like I don't need to upgrade after all!

Interesting!    The service manual that I have is for 2016 Touring...    I don' have the CVO Supplement...   It might be in there?

Yes, the CVOs have that upgraded charging system, which also provides more power at lower RPM than does the non-CVO system.  Remember, though, that the output is dependent on RPM, so if you have a large load (say, music loud, heated gear/grips/seat on, all lights on) and running mostly at lower end of engine speed for a short ride...may not have enough total charge put into battery to recharge it.

I always put my bike on the battery tender to get it fully charged and keep it there between rides.

Everything you mentioned I have on my bike. Aux lights, LED fogs, Focal speakers in the lowers, Arc amp, Fosgate amp, Heated gear (liner and gloves) all with no issues with stock system.

The supplemental manual is where they put all the items unique to the CVO, which is why CVO owners need both manuals.  In this case the electrical information for the CVO high output system would be in the supplement, along with any other unique items not on the standard models.

I'm just looking to add more lights. Given all the lights now a days are LED, they shouldn't be too hard on the charging system. I'm too cold blooded to ride below 50, so no need for heated gear. And I always hook my bikes up to tenders as soon as I get home. My past 2 batteries in other bikes have had longer than average service life and I'm sure it is because of this.

Right on Jerry. When I installed the Stage II Audio System I referred to my 2015 FLTRUSE Supplement manual for the wiring diagrams which were quite helpful. Oddly, in this case I couldn't find any reference to charging system specifications in either of the service manuals :nixweiss:. The only reference I found was in the owners manual where it shows the amperage matching the High Output Charging System ::).
