Rinehart fitment issues on the 07's
« on: February 19, 2007, 07:31:06 PM »

Fellow '07 CVO Road King owners... I've been tracking with interest the fitment issues uncovered by some when trying to install Rinehart true duals on their bikes.  I emailed Bub last December and this is what they sent me back: "The Rinehart True Duals will fit on the SE Road King but you have to run the standard Road King brake pedal (otherwise the front header hits).  Also you might have to modify the mounting bracket for the rear header pipe.  We didn’t have a bike to test fit a set on, and this is the information that I have received from dealers installing the pipes on bikes."  I'd love to get a set of Rinehart pipes but these issues make me a little uneasy.  I want to keep my billet brake pedal and I don't want to modify, cut, bend or grind anything. Has anyone tried these pipes lately with success?

Shadowboxer, most of the discussion on this topic can be found in the two threads below, and unfortunately, it doesn't sound like a fix is coming real soon:

A friend just put the pipes on an '07 cherry CUSE in January.  He had the rear brake lever problem and had to change it out in order to clear the heat shield.

I'll be interested in your impressions of the quiet baffles. I am concerned the regular baffles may be louder than I'm looking for. Too bad the Freedoms turned out so fugly.

I also have Rinehart Duals on my 07 SERK and kept the billet brake lever and did not have to grind or bend the heat sheild.  They put on a thinner gasket and everything mounted up fine.  Clearance of about 1/4" from the lever.  I'm also interested in hearing how satisfied you are with the quiet baffles.  When you get them please give us a comparison to other pipes on the sound and let us know if it affects performance in any way.  Thanks!!!

I just got a call from my dealer and they said they couldn't use my brake lever.  I guess it is the luck of the draw on this issue.  I was hoping it all would fit because it seems the more resent experiences with this issue have been good.

The dealer suggested I allow them to cut the heat shield to make the fit, but when I asked how they would treat the cut they said silver paint.   ???  I read a thread where a guy had success with a Kuryakyn 1027 lever.  It looks very similar to the billet, and I also read where somebody had it on his bike for 2 years and it still looked good.  So, I decided to go with the Kuryakyn and keep the stock part until I can make it all work right (how I don't quite know at this point).  I'll let you all know if I have the same success here.

Just curious as to whether some of these installers are not using the thinner gaskets that come with the RH's?  If they are using the stock gaskets, that can make a heck of a difference...easier to seal, but big, thick,  honkin' things.  1/4" would not be hard to imagine gaining using the thinner gasket....

TC,

Even with the thinner James gaskets, I'm real close. I haven't torqued it all down as of yet, but I have my doubts. I'll know more soon.

I did mention using a thinner gasket when I took it in.  When I pick it up, I'll ask again.  I'm not familiar with the different gaskets.   If I check for myself at pick-up, will it be obvious which was used?

No, you can't see it because it's down in the recess in the head, covered up by the pipe. The directions are very specific about removing the stock gaskets and using the ones that came with the pipes.

Good luck.

Thanks Chief... good luck with yours fitting.  After pick-up, I will post a picture of the Kuryakyn lever and give feedback on the look/finish/fit (assuming it will work for me).
