Alarm Chirps
« on: April 24, 2017, 12:23:28 AM »

I have a 2016 CVO Limited. Anyone had any luck in turning off the two chirps from the alarm system every time the bike is turned off? Not a huge deal, but it does get annoying every time you stop the bike.

I never ceased to be amazed at how poorly informed and how little some dealership personnel actually know about their product.  I've had many work related positions over the years and many involved sales.  Knowing your products features and benefits is basic to being a good salesperson.  Many of these guys and gals are simply order takers.

And to expand on that, while it's not good that the salespeople don't know much about the product they're "selling", in all too many cases the parts and service employees are no better.  Think back over the years to how many times the service department fed you a pile of BS in response to a question that someone around here could answer correctly off the top of their head.

Took my wife's little commuter car in for a noise, under warranty, when A/C cycled. I made casual comment to the writer that when the a/c compressor kicked on the chirp started. Probably associated with that system.
They installed a new A/C compressor, I picked up car and still had chirp. Went back next morning and said "still have chirp, did you all at least check the belt idler?". Guy became very agitated that if I thought that was the problem why didn't I tell them.  Wife was with me so I smiled and walked away. They ordered and replaced idler without ever checking, tech told me there was no way to check an idler. It did fix it. Sad he knew so little, same with HD people. BUT HD dealer will just about hire anyone who ever rode a Harley and consider them acceptable to help unknowing folks. Sad.

See you live in Fl, I am from Tampa area. Buddy of mine took his Dyna to the local HD, it is one of three owned by a large car dealer conglomerate. Buddy has done a lot of work to his bike, including changing the rims. He actually wrote down the tire size of the rear tire as he did not trust the tech to check it before ordering a stock tire for his Dyna. During the write up, he gave the tire measurements to the service writer and explained he had custom rims. Fast forward three weeks, yes, three weeks to change a rear tire, as HD ordered two, yes, two stock tires that of course did not fit each time they tried to install the stock tire on a custom rim.

Kinda reminds me of that old Ammco commercial with two monkeys beating on a transmission with baseball bats in the background!

 :2vrolijk_21:  ;D    I always loved that ad.

As a person who started his automotive career as a service rep for an automaker and dealt with dealerships and customers daily, I learned early on that the single biggest thing that caused repeat repair attempts and customer dissatisfaction was poor communication between the customer, service writer, and the mechanic/technician.  That remains true to this day.  In an attempt to circumvent this in my own personal dealings with parts and service departments, I type up all the pertinent information ahead of time, including a detailed description of the problem if it's a service visit, and go over it with the service writer and ask him to attach it to the work order.  And guess what, I still have problems with some places looking at the wrong thing or blowing an easy diagnosis.  In my youth I avoided all this crap by just fixing everything myself, even if it would have been covered by warranty.  In my old age, I've taken to only doing the simpler things myself and leaving the heavy lifting to the "pro's".  And while I occasionally get pleasantly surprised, at least half the time the experience leaves me thinking next time I'll start doing this stuff myself again.  I totally understand why so many people are frustrated.

I was told that the "chirp" couldn't be disabled. It took me a few tries but now it's silent. Thanks for posting the details.

Two years ago had my dealer secure my new 15 SERG to a skid for an ocean shipment from Kauai to San Diego for a 4 week road trip. Rather than disconnect the battery (per outdated shipping rules) which is a PITA when picking up the bike, I spoke to the service manager and specifically requested the main fuse be pulled and placed in the TourPak, a much simpler solution to the siren going off on a rolling ocean voyage :2vrolijk_21:.

Upon picking up the bike (still tied down on its skid) in San Diego 10 days later I couldn't locate the main fuse and discovered it was in its normal place. I thought "wow" .......great service ......they re-installed it for me :huepfenjump3:. To my chagrin I discovered a dead battery due to the siren going off the entire week of the ocean voyage >:(!!

I called and asked the service manager WTF. His response reflected classical "island style" incompetence: "Your request wouldn't work .......every time we pulled the fuse the siren went off" :'(!!! Of course his "solution" was to do nothing LOL :o! Incredibly, I had to explain to him the ignition had to be "on" when pulling the fuse .....a security feature to keep bike thieves from simply pulling the fuse to silence the alarm !!!

See the post above where the instructions for turning chirp on or off is listed, right below that are instruction for shipping!!! Surprise, dealer did not know that either
