any carpenters on here

I'm building a car port 3/12 pitch , but want to stay with 16 ft rahfers,(because of cost) how wide should my car port be with an over hang of one ft. :drummer:

Not currently one anymore but I still know the math. You can have 29 foot max width for your carport to use 16' rafters on a 3/12 slope, 1 ft eave, and I guessed a 6" ridge.

understanding coloradotom"s response. however my question is ,is it a flat roof (attached to the side of an existing structure or free standing with a A- frame roof? A-frame I think is what tom is speaking of. if it's a one sided flat roof, basically take half that,maybe allowing a little less for overhang

A 3/12 pitch means it is a peaked roof and coloradotom is correct.

Some consideration may need to applied for the anticipated weather where you live.  Snow load can be bad in some places and a 3/12 is fairly flat.
