If I was gonna buy any of the 2018 bikes it would not be a CVO. It would be one of the Specials. Blacked out, pick a color and save 15 to 20 grand. Ridiculous Harley!!!  Ridiculous!!!

You nailed that for sure Don. I just peeked in on the standard RGU and RGS and nothing there I'd even consider for a 2nd bike. Hell, the RGS is only $100 cheaper than the RGU.

Some years they've done better than others.  At times one could parse the details and cast the runes and at least think you might see some method to the.... whatever the thought and design processes might be.  Maybe things having to be an in between year for tooling for what is admittedly a relatively small major manufacturer to catch.  Or.... well... a lot of "somethings" that one might offer to give them some latitude.

Not this mess.

The M8 isn't new anymore.  So you know anything they'd been planning for it has had plenty of time to gain legs and be ready to run.  As they put the new power plant (totally expectedly) across the model lines one would think (hope) that they'd couple with the pizazz and pomp and other words even more exciting to capitalize.  Right now the only thing that makes any sense is:

Well, the engine has sumping problems, other stuff we're really not sure of that we REALLY need time to sort out.  Because... well... as much as we hate to admit it we're just not that good at this stuff.  So, oil pump case or gerotors--- we'll get that sorted; oil going from primary to tranny when the bikes are ridden as they're supposed to be--- yeah, we don't know what's going on there either.  Might be time for a "pause year" so lets make some bikes that absolutely won't generate a lot of sales numbers so we've got time to work on this mess without generating an even GREATER amount of warranty liability.  Check  .

I feel better now.  There are at least some of the 2018 models I actually do quite like the looks of.  Trouble is they all are family variations of this  .

Very dissapointed by the CVO paint schemes.  Very blah for a $40k bike when compared against the creative paint from past CVO years.  Can't get excited about a CVO painted battleship gray gloss.  This is what I expect a CVO paint scheme to look like:
