Fork stops?
« on: May 16, 2017, 12:03:40 PM »

Noticed while washing the bike last night that at full lock to the left the inner faring is touching the tank. Full lock to the right i have about 1/4".

Is there an adjustment or a stop somewhere? I couldnt find anything in the service manual.

Thanks.

If i lock the forks with the ignition it doesnt touch, but unlocked it will,

Sounds like the bumper were removed from the forks, should not get that close.

Is there a detail in the service manual somewhere? Are they something external on the triple tree?

Sorry for my ignorance, former softail rider here, and thanks

They are a rubber bushing (for lack of a better description) that go around each fork and act as a bumper against the frame.  Not quite as big as a hockey puck.  Sometimes folks remove them in order to be able to make real tight turns (think Police) but you still do 19' with them on the bike.

If you have a Service Manual look at the forks and they should be there.  If not, just look at another bike with a fairing.

Manual for my 2012 shows nothing. Older models show the rubber donughts around the forks.
Read somethimg about a stop as part of the triple tree?

Fork stop is part of the tree, newer models do not use the doughnuts anymore. There is a slight adjustment that can be made in the tank as well as the fairing. Loosen the four tank bolts and move it back and also loosen the four bolts holding the fairing the the trees and you can move it forward slightly. These adjustments should give you the clearance you need.
