How about if a bike is park, never used, encased in an air tight tomb filled with nitrogen and the tomb (and the bike if necessary) are occasionally spritzed with synthetic oil that comes from the nipples of 72 virgins?

Oh my, I did not consider that option.  How about just so long as they're not moderators?  :huepfenlol2:

16 CVO SG are not holding their value, there's a few advertised for $28k on CL, low miles and a few mods and they've been sitting for a month or two. Anything above $30k has been sitting for months unless it has tons of extras (TP, 117, etc). It's a buyers market.  Lots listed for $35-40k too, those people are clearly oblivious to the actual value.

Very surprised that the Mods have not sent this Thread to the "Humor" Section LMFAO  :drink:

Perhaps my logic was flawed or at least impaired by some of New Belgium's finest offerings but I appreciate all the input. Now, who wants to talk about oil?

Nitrogen infused oil?  Nitrogen infused beer is called Guinness.   ;D

Pre-2017 CVOs are depreciating faster. HD reacted by offering incentives on the 2016s - not usual biz for Harley, an easy indicator of market value decline.  Each major model change - as long as it is perceived as an improvement - accelerates depreciation of previous models.  Other bike brands, cars, trucks, boats, RVs, etc. - same deal.

I may wait until the factory warranty expires on my 2017 to do some engine mods - or may not.  Out of the box the bike runs better stock than any HD I have owned.  Not burning the chit out of my right leg (stock) was a major plus also.

Anyway, heard the same string of thought re: older models are worth more back when it was carburetor vs fuel injected.  Don't hear that one anymore.  Some are happier on older bikes no doubt & some of the newfangled bike doodads can be annoying.  What makes a ride your ride is what is important. Not the age or newness of the bike. You ride what you ride because you like it - really all that matters.  That being said - unfortunately has little to do with the value of that bike to others - the market determines that.

Well you see what I'm riding, plan to run her until she's got nothing left to give.  Great thing about my bike is new models don't really affect its value in that it wasn't worth what I had in it 2016 and still ain't worth what I have in it 2017! Would be lucky to get my mod $ back much less the bike itself. I am considering buying myself a retirement gift in 5-6 years and it will likely be a slightly used CVO Limited, the Bird will probably be approaching 100k so she certainly will zero value by then so I'll just keep her.

I was on eBay the past few days and watching some slightly used 2016 Road Glides. It's not a pretty picture. Mind you these aren't CVO but the new 16 FLTRUSE as selling for $6k discount.

I don't believe the 2016 CVO models would do any better on a comparative basis (% of purchase price).

DH

Few of those are rebuilt titles...Guess time will tell!!! Specially when the 18s come out...

All things considered...I would still buy my 2015 CVO Street Glide and my Wife's 2014 CVO Road King. After all, they are FREAKIN Harley's !!!!! :bananarock:

I wonder if those guys over at the Victory forums feel the same way?

Nope.  When they ramped up production in 2002/03 for the Anniversary bikes the days of them holding values ended.  A few years ago I stumbled upon a 2003 Heritage Springer at a dealership in GA that was still on the crate.  They put the crate on the showroom floor and put a sticker on it for $21.5K (MSRP).  It didn't sell for a while....  It was 10 years old, still in the crate and they couldn't get MSRP for a beautiful Anniversary Heritage Springer.  If I had been able to swing it, I'd of paid for it on the spot and then brought the truck back and picked it up on the crate, but it wasn't selling and I couldn't buy it at the time.  Sad about that.
