Help with Daymaker Fog Lights
« on: June 03, 2017, 12:16:34 PM »

I finished wiring up my Daymaker Fog lights last night. Turn signals work correctly, the switch lights up and you can hear the relay click, but I get no lights on the fog lights.  Have triple checked my connections, and according to the instructions, I have it all connected.

I used kits:

Road Glide LED Fog Lamp Mount Kit - Chrome, #68000183
Auxiliary Power Switch Kit - Fairing Mount #71400105
Daymaker Reflector LED Fog Lamps - Chrome Housing #68000090

Any idea what may be wrong and what I can test?

im sure that LED lights are polarity sensitive... maybe flip the wiires and see what happens  :nixweiss:   also use your DVOM to check for voltage and a good ground at the light...

Have you checked for power @ the lamps, a simple test light or fancy meter.

No power at the lamps, or at least the connection that I spliced into.  I traced out that wire, blue/blk strip, and it goes all the way into the body harness according to the manual.  Here's my thought though...where does the power get to that wire?  I am thinking that connector (4) on the harness needs to be connected to something on the bike, but have no idea what.  Since the harness gives outputs for Acc2 and Acc3, and the instructions say to use the far right switch, is it possible this is Acc3?  If so, what is the harness connector supposed to plug into?  Lastly, is it POSSIBLE that the fuse for my radio would also control these lights?  I have pulled that fuse until I can get the radio flashed this week due to a Boom II upgrade.

A little more information...read on the HD website another rider was having an issue and he had to install the fog lamp switch, PN 71400044, in the dash.  Got one this morning, installed and still no lights.  Bike goes into the shop of Thursday for service, am having them look at it if no one here chimes in.

Install the fuse and leave the audio system turned off.  The P&A fuse controls more than just the radio.  That may be your problem, depending on where you are getting power for the lights.  Should be from the Accessory connector if you used the instructions and the Electrical Connection Harness.  Before trying other things or handing it over to a dealership, try the easy stuff like this fuse.

In your picture your cable harness is only connected to power. You have not connected either of the outputs to anything. The wire with 3 "loose" wires are your 2 amp connection and the one with the connector is your 4 amp connector. If you have not connected any of these to your light you don't have power to the light.

Yes...and it's not a good one.  I finally gave up and told the dealer to troubleshoot.  First they told me my switch assy was bad, they were wrong.  Then they told me the lights were bad.  The wiring on the right light where it passed underneath the mount was completely torn and frayed.  Like someone pulled and pulled on it without loosening the mount.  Honestly, I believe the dealer did it.  I know when I installed them, there was no pulling on them at all.  Long story short, new set of lights and 3 hours labor.  I will never use this dealer again.

I have a 2017 CVO SG and just had the Fog Lamps put on last week. He had to wire mine with my Daymaker Running Lamps switch. He mentioned to me that Harley engineering said not to use separate switches for Running and Fog Lamps.  Hope this helps in some way..  All the best.

Glad it's working for you.  I'm not one to generally defend the efforts of unknown-to-me dealerships.  Not really defending here per se either.  Just considering the details, however, it always takes awhile to even begin sorting out a problem (no matter who or what was the cause) when you're chasing someone else's work.  So they had to start with what someone else had previously started, figure that out, make it work (when you couldn't) and then get it all buttoned up.

Wouldn't dare say whether or not they've taken advantage of you.  Does seem they at least went out of their way to use lube if they did though.
