Welcome to the site eg. Regarding the w.....ty, I'll plead the 5th! (Psst, FTW.....ty!) Get the bike right and worry about it when you need to. If you don't do the mods, you will need that w.....ty! ;) Hoist! 8)

Novel idea there, Howie.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I would be looking for another dealer that will gladly take your $$$ and give you the warranty. Good luck!

If you or your friend have any doubt about or need the warrenty. Then my advise would be to wait until the warrenty expires then you can do as you please. Most of the owners here either don't need the warrenty or gamble that it won't be a issue or just don't give a Rats A$$ about it.

If you can afford to buy it then you should be able to pay to fix it or replace it without much worry.

Welcome egcobra!  I am new to the site also.  Great information here.  I agree I would find  a new dealer.  I have talked to dealers here in Washington and the one in Eugene where I purchased my bike.  They have recommended Techlusion for the fuel management.  It piggybacks and can be removed if there is ever a problem returning the bike to stock.  Here is there website

Just in case you missed it, get a new dealer. Mine installed the S.E.R.T. and A/C along with pipes and then finished up with the dyno tune. We are all happy. They got my money and I've got a good running Jester. Since they did the work etc... they have no problems with warranty. .. and .... I'm still within EPA. Ok, back to sleep.

I must have missed the poll verifying this fact. Seems a little arrogant and condescending don't you think? Not to speak for "most of the owners here" but I personally get a bit of satisfaction knowing I have factory warranty.

I gotta agree with EZ...I don't happen to have a couple of grand (or more) of ez money just laying around to pay for a new tranny, or worse engine.  To make the assumption that just because you bought a CVO, you can afford to pay for the repairs, is a bogus statement.  Buying the bike, unless you have big chunks of change laying around to pay cash, it is financed, and you can roll a lot of things into that financing.  Saying F--- the Warranty and then having to come up with a couple of grand to fix an engine or tranny, or whatever, is not an option I can afford to be faced with, hence the warranty is very important to me, and it was important to me that my dealer guaranteed they'd honor the warranty as long as they did the mods...so not everyone that owns a CVO is rolling in dough and can afford to just drop money into it for every repair.  Hell, service costs are high enough, I don't need to worry about paying for repair bills too.  JMHO guys...sorry :soapbox:
Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

I don't think anyone's saying FTW completely. Doing performance mods voids the W.....ty per MoCo. Now, how do you handle that. First off, if the problem has nothing to do with the failure, you'll be covered. Frankly, I'm not convinced that it's a big benefit for me. I don't usually have a dealer work on my bikes. I have an '85 FXWG. W.....ty's long gone on that. I keep it running right and maintained, and don't have major failures. If and when I do, there are ways, thru a good Indy, to get things done without too much pain. Then there's engine stuff under W.....ty. This is the tricky one. You say if your dealer does the mods, then they'll guaranty your W.....ty, regardless of whether HD picks up the tab. If they're stand-up, they will. If you like the quality of service, and have them work on your bike, by all means proceed that way. If you know that deal will be good for 7 years, you're lucky! If I had them working on my bike for 7 years, I'd never be riding it. It'd be at the shop half the time and I'd be miserable. That's why I decided to do what I did. And I still think I have a decent chance of getting an engine done. That's why I'm still not doing any more than I've done until next winter. If this thing grenades itself, it will be this year. I'll try to make sure of that. Once you build a Wednesday bike, there's little to worry about. It's still a Harley, so there's always something. I fix them myself or indy. Again, you want the best guy for you working on your bike. Getting things fixed half-assed and continuing to bring it back for the same thing's not my idea of W.....ty!

So basically it comes down to, like everything else, what's best for you! I'm not having a place I'd rather not work on my bike, work on it, just because I might have a problem down the road fixed for free. I've never worried about it before and decided not to start worrying about it now! I'll just deal with it when it comes! I think this helps explain the attitude toward the W....ty. It's not condescending or arrogance, it's a personal decision based on individual comfort level, experience, and one's own knowledge about their bikes. If you just want to ride and know nothing technically about it, you'll probably use the dealer. If you know your chit and have connections, you probably won't.

That's my current $.02 and like everything else, is subject to change! ;) Hoist! 8)

Here's a calculation to consider Howie.

Where W = Warranty, C = service Contract, F = dealer Frustration, Y = Yearly cost, U = You (the owner's patience and high blood pressure), K = Kost of a nice lift in your garage at home and V = Value

You can see something like this:

W+C=F

(W+C) x Y > U

V should be > C

U > K

So to summarize F+U+C+K/W means it's nice to have K and lower U and the math proves it is cost effective. :2vrolijk_21:
