Does anyone know if these will link (via Bluetooth) with the harley boom system?

The boom system will link on a LIMITED level with any bluetooth device. You will be able to hear music, weather bands and possibly gps guidance. You will not be able to give any voice commands, and no intercom, CB communications because the boom infotainment system has no voice protocol ability built into it.

When did they add the Bluetooth headset protocol?
Is that a feature for the 17's or model specific?

I tried to link my LG wireless headset to my bike. It  recognized the unit but needed a 4 digit code to link.

Lots of info on the Sena system on here.

https://www.sena.com/product/freewire/

I looked into it, but the module and their headset will run you approx $500. The Sena module will make HD receptive to most any bluetooth headsets. The module alone runs about $250
