Cruise Control Dropping Out
« on: July 20, 2017, 03:58:05 PM »

0577 Code. Been happening a few days now. Rode 90 miles of interatate this morning without an issue. On return trip cc dropped out without warning, but green indicator stayed lit. Check engine lite didnt come on until after the 3rd or 4th attempt, then went back out.

No consistency as to how long it goes before it drops out. Sometimes a mile or two, sometimes instantly,

No changes have been made to the bike before this started. Cant find anytging in the normal service manual. Guessing theres a seperate electrical one.

2012 SESG Stock, Decatted & Debaffled, FP3

Thanks in advance.

I can think of three bikes I've messed with throwing that code.  It is a cruise fault code.

One of the bikes had just spent a few days mostly riding in showers or heavy rains.  Then upon getting home the owner washed it at the car wash also.  The cruise set switch was wet.  Blew everything out, sprayed all the switches with electrical cleaner than a dose of WD40 and it never acted up again.

One of the bikes had just suffered the indignity of its owner changing handlebars for it.  Wires were smashed inside the switch housing.  Cruise wasn't the only thing not working on that one.

The other I messed with was just a bid cruise set switch.  Would've tried cleaning it with contact cleaner and blowing it out first but the owner simply wanted to replace it.  He'd brought a six pack of my favorite for the effort so i was not arguing.

I had a similar cruise issue once after I washed it. I blew out the switch housing and everything has worked fine since.

I first thought it was the brake but then read your light is still green. I have not seen that.

Thanks everyone. Just so happens, last long ride we were in some serious downpours, enough to make us find an underpass. Wettest I've ever rode in. Once home I washed the road crud off.

Kinda had the same suspicions. Before todays ride I sprayed contact cleaner up through the holes in the bottom of the switch housing and  worked the switch a bunch. Thought i had it cured. I will try the contact a few more times.

Not a critical problem that cant wait till this winter when i change bars, just annoying as hell,.

Chase the contact cleaner with compressed air.  Follow that with a little WD40.

Thanks. Did that, seemed to help. Ride all day with no issues, then CEL came on a mile from the campground.

Read it with my fuelpak, same 0577 code along with a 1010 code. Password missing? What password?
