feedback on radio at speed
« on: July 21, 2017, 08:00:18 AM »

I have started to get a feedback type noise through the speakers while riding. Only once has it done it at idle. Any ideas? Thanks :(

You haven't identified your bike and setuup .......but assuming you use a headset with microphone, it might be the squelch (sensitivity) setting for your CB radio needs adjusting. At speed the wind against the microphone "thinks" you're attempting to communicate :nixweiss:

The noise is coming out of the fairing speakers. Stock radio and factory amp with Boom audio stage 1 speakers.

Reading around google, possibly an amp problem?

Okay Bandit .......stage 1 tells me you've got a Rushmore bike, but still don't know model and year. If your bike is equipped with a factory CB radio and you are using a headset, check the CB squelch setting .....it may be set too sensitive.

Suggest you go to PROFILE and post the details of your bike .........that way we don't have to begin trying to help you by asking a bunch of basic questions ::)!

Thanks, I did add some info to my profile. It is a 2011 Electra CVO. No headset at this time. Noise and cutout through front speakers at highway speeds.

So, I have pulled the outer fairing 3 times. All connections are tight and clean. At a stop light I turned the bars ALL the way to the left to look into mirror, the right fairing speaker popped. I can replicate this every time I turn the bars hard left and the right speakers makes the popping sound. Maybe a pulled or tight wire coming out of fairing toward frame????

Pull the fairing off so you can check the wires as the bars are turned to the spot the speaker acts up, have the radio on and check the support brackets to see if the wires have rubbed the insulation off, with a pair of needle nose pliers start doing a wiggle test on the wires close to the connectors, something may show up doing these.
You can also, with power off, un plug radio related wires to check connection and grounds.

Thanks Joel. I will try that and hopefully it will be and obvious worn insulation off a wire.
