2-1 Supermeg from SuperTrapp question
« on: July 30, 2017, 08:39:20 PM »

Was out on the bikes (they took turns) late morning and all afternoon and spent a few minutes behind someone's Electra Glide that left me with a question.  The bike had a 2-1 with discs that I'm relatively sure was a Supermeg from SuperTrapp.  Have seen that pipe before but never really looked that close.

What I noticed today was that it was much quieter than the FatCats on my bike.  So to anyone that has direct experience with the 2-1 SuperMeg and has or ridden FatCats was today's experience more of a one-off that doesn't translate to the fleet at large or are SuperMegs actually noticeably quieter than FatCats?

I had a Supermeg on my SEEG. Loved it. Much more tolerable noise level when cruising but when you get on it they sound really good. Absolutely quieter than the fat at.

What he said ^^.  The difference between the Super Meg and the Fat Cat is like night to day in my opinion, and of course you can tune the sound level with the number of discs.  I've left mine with the stock number of discs and it seems fine to me.  I avoided a two into one for years because the only widely available choices seem to be between Fat Cat and Thunderheader, and both were way too loud. For me the Super Trapp was the right answer.

Thanks guys.  Yours are two voices that are enough for me to count myself as "informed" on the question now.

I've always been pleased with the way the bike performed with the FatCats.  Always wished they were a little quieter though.  As they've gotten older that sound has become even more robust.  On the SERG the pipes have been there long enough they've got cosmetic issues that you don't have to look too close to find either so I'd decided this winter along with some engine work the bike would get new exhaust too.  I'd apparently just never heard the SuperMeg's up close and in person as this was a pretty striking distance I noticed today.

Ok, one less decision to make and one more thing on the shopping list.   :2vrolijk_21:

I had a FatCat on my '01 Ultra, for one day, then I HAD to take it off. It was too loud. hd-dude put a SuperTrapp Supermeg on my '06 and I love it. Nice and mellow when cruising, but has a bark when you get on it. Running the factory discs.

Cool Mark.  The direct before and after comparison couldn't be better for my purposes here.
