Real simple.

Two screws up inside cavity between fork tubes. (The tough ones)
Two screws, one under each speaker.
Three screws under windshield.

Socks over spots.

Tilt fairing forward and wiggle headlight connector off of back of bulb.

Wiggle and maneuver until it comes off.

It's one of those thing you'll get the hang of.

Good luck.

You may want to stick a rag or some other cloth on the brace that is directly under the "two screws up inside cavity between fork tubes".  As Chief mentioned these are the tough ones and you will more then likely drop one/both. You may also want to have one of those telescopic magnets for when you do drop it they get hidden in some really hard to find places. :o Don't ask me how I know. ;) Like any other part when you go to put it back together get all the screws started before you tighten them down. This will help align and prevent crossthreading.

What about the screws for the wind deflectors?

What about the screws for the wind deflectors?
When you say wind deflector are you talking about the chrome piece that is under under the fairing between the forks, or are you calling the windshield the wind deflector? The only screws that need be removed are the ones that Chief mentioned above. If you do a search for "Fairing Removal" there are some threads posted earlier that actually have scans of the manual pointing out the location of the screws.

No they stay there AJ.  I found it was easier for me to remove the two bolts that held the air cleaner side spot lite and bracket off the fork and wrap it and hang it  so as to make the fairing fron more manuervable.  towels on the fender  of course.

What about the screws for the wind deflectors?

The wind deflectors are only threaded into the inner fairing and do not go all the way through to the fairing cap. You can leave them on.

One other note re fairing. Make sure the rubber seal along the bottom of the fairing stays in place during install. I had to use glue to make them permananent, so they would be in the correct position during reinstallation. It is under the fairing to insure weather protection .

Those 6 srews are it and easy and you will have no problem.
Here is a pic with mine off and I covered the lights and fender with a heavy
long sleeved shirt.  Als while messing around here, look to see that your steering
head has been grease up under the inner fairing on the left side.  Mine was bone dry
and I added a 90 degree fitting to make it easy in the future.
I also added some weather stripping to my outer fairing beacuse the dealer goobered
up the stuff that came with the bike and water was on its way in if I didn't fix that fast!

Tim, did you do the spot lights? If so you may be coming over on night this week. If not we'll do both.

I didn't do spot lights, let me know which night this week and if you need any tools!
Hopefully I will have my bike back together today after I give some love to the front
bung location, for the longer sensor, with my BFH.  Then it is down hill from there doing
the computer stuff and then letting the Auto Tune run its course.

Glad it's all installed. At the last minute decided to go in the cage. Glad I did. Major rain.

Stopped by both HD shops of course. Saw a SEEG (year unknown) on the floor w/ 25k on it. No price.

Let's ride tomorrow after work & get some miles on that TMax.
