Andy don't throw the old CDs out (if you meant it literally)......let me try them on my bike.  I don't think it's the CDs, I think it's the player.  A CD will skip then the next time I play the same CD (another ride), it doesn't skip.  It seems to be after the player has been on for an hour or two, for me.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo....it's not waterproof.  It is water resistant, however, and the front panel doesn't have any seams.  It does a good job.  I bought a handlebar mount kit and a neoprene cover.  When I hit the road this summer, I wrapped it in a sandwich bag and put it inside the neoprene.  Even in driving rain, it stayed perfectly dry.  This is the way to go if you want non-stop music.  I didn't even take a CD.

Also, a note to ak's friends.  IPods work on PCs too...not just Apple.

I agree the IPOD is a great way to carry a lot of music with you. I have the 40GB and also have the mini. I think if I were to mount one on my bike I would put it in some sort of pouch which would isolate it somewhat from vibration. I have had no trouble with either of mine when carrying them around or using them in the car with solid mount, but they are hard drive based. I am not sure if the vibration from a motorcycle would eventually cause one trouble or not. Has anyone used one mounted on a solid handlebar mount for any extended period of time?

I don't exactly know what you mean by extended...but I used mine for 9 days straight.
No issues at all...not even one skip.  When you mount it to a neoprene case, like I described above, the vibration should be very minimal anyway.  The physics of the vibration should be logically small.  I can't think that it would wear on the IPod.  They are well-made.

AK,

I also have a 40GB iPod, you mentioned you plug yours into the Aux. port on the Radio/CD., what accessrie did you buy to do that?

I use the iTrip FM Modulator, is the Aux Port Interface better?

I have yet to use it on my RG as we drove down and left it in Phoenix at SBC (Charlie's) Shop to install an 04 SE 103" with some modifications.

When I do use it on the bike, as it is a RG  I was planning on getting a protective type case and put it in the tour pack.

If you or any one has other ideas I would be glad to hear of them

Thanks,

geezerglide.

Most FM modulators broadcast in Lo-Fi...mono and sounds not too great.  The lo-tech wire comes in Hi-Fi stereo, and sounds perfect.  That is the difference.  Enjoy!  The wire also costs maybe $3.  The FM broadcaster costs more than that, for lesser sound.  Hmmmm.

Just bought a couple of ipod minis from MacMall.  When I called they had several in stock and are usually a couple bucks cheaper than the Apple stores.  Might want to take a look at http://www.macmall.comhttp://
