I caution a couple of things when sizing out a new throttle body, one, is if you using stock heads, or if your heads have had work done to them, the exhaust port needs to fit the throttle body, I had level B heads and had a 1.7 on the exhaust, 5.3 injectors, and a 55-58 throttle body, I believe it is 1.6 on the stock heads for the exhaust port.

 If the exhaust port is aligning with the throttle body, you need to swap the heads--they're on backwards!

ok, im trying to follow along here... your saying 50 is ok for a 1.6 and a 1.7 needs a 55 or a 58? to me i would say the 58 would be better suited on a 1.8 but only with level C head  corect me if im wrong

Let me try to explain, the exhaust ports stock are 1.6, level B can be bored to 1.7 so when you purchase the TB in order for it to fit you need to have the right size, also something I didn't mention is when purchasing a TB from HPI, send the electronics to them so they can install it for you, 3 of my friends went with the 58MM. TB, and their satisfied with the performance, they are glad they didn't get into the motor too!

I can understand a throttle body matching intake flow, and port and the exhaust flow being correct through a valve job etc, what does a 1.7 exhaust port opening have to do with a throttle body fitting.   

The throttle body attaches to the intake not the exhaust please explain.

stock is 1.6 headwork you can expand the diameter of the port.
