LED Lighting
« on: October 25, 2017, 04:36:42 PM »

I have a set of Trucklite Phase 7 LEDs (all 3 lights) on the front of my SEEG.  On a recent trip to the mountains we got late enough that we had to ride the last 20 or so miles in the dark.  Great lighting - except in tight turns.  While turning, the "cutoff" line of the LED tips up/down with the lean angle of the bike making it impossible to see the upcoming road through the turn.  Those of you who have these know what I mean.  What is the solution?  Considering Motolights but want to hear from someone that uses them (or any other suggestion) to make sure this will address the problem.

Thanks.

I have heard that if you turn the passing lamps upside down (rotate 180 deg) that cures that problem with the daymakers. It might work for the Phase 7's

If you can't find the pricing or order direct from JW speaker you should be able to find what you need and order from companies like RevZilla

One thing to keep in mind is that JW speaker is the manufacturer of the daymaker for the motor company, so you know the quality is there

I spoke to the reps at Daytona just a few weeks past and they outright stated they made the daymakers for Harley and have a new improved version of the daymakers as well as there new ones that move with the bike as it turns.    :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Although they said they weren't able to make the newest lights for the roadglide as there wasn't enough room with style fairing and bezel.

Don you are correct I should have been more thorough, for the New fairings on the 14 and up Roadglides.  They stated the front bezel piece around the lights didn't give them enough room to work with for the adaptives.

The issue with the cutoff on the lights isn't something new, people using Euro spec halogens going WAY back (like me) also had that issue.  Those lights had the same sharp vertical cutoff that doesn't work well on a leaning bike.  American spec halogens or those specially designed for bikes had a much less sharp cutoff, but with that comes excessive scatter and glare.  These days the issue seems to be worse with the so-called projector beam lights versus the older style reflector lights.  Look for a reflector version of the LED lights, if they still exist.

Consider A set of Clearwater "Darla" lights as well.
