2012 CVO Battery finally giving charge issues
« on: October 31, 2017, 04:59:52 PM »

Looks like I need to replace my factory battery on my 2012 CVO SG.  My question is would you go back with factory replacement $179.00 jell pack or go with the new lithium battery from battery tender ?

Mitch, the Harley battery isn't a gel battery, it's an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery.  You can buy a similar AGM battery with the same Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) as the Harley battery from Deka for about $70 less.  The same battery is also sold under other brand names, such as Big Crank at Battery Mart.  OR, you could try the Yuasa Twolane referenced that has 500 CCA versus the stock 400 CCA for about $40 less than the Harley battery.

The lithium options tend to be twice the price of the Harley battery and they have their own set of possible issues.  IMHO the best bet is the Yuasa.

as I have posted before I have had the Anti Gravity LI battery on my 12 CVO RG with a 124hc for over 3 years now and I absolutely love it. Motor turns over like a sport bike now and has for over 30000 miles. I have seen all the negatives on LI batteries and maybe I just got a weird good one but for sure worth it IMO and will absolutely get another.

Just measured the OEM battery. This one will not fit my bike! :(

The battery discussed previously in this thread is only for Touring models, and as you found out it won't fit a Softail.

Here's a link to the Yuasa that fits your Breakout:
https://www.amazon.com/Yuasa-YUAM720GH-GYZ20HL-Battery/dp/B003RF5AWI/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Harley%20Davidson%7C1187&Model=FXSBSE%20CVO%20Breakout%7C23205&Year=2013%7C2013&ie=UTF8&n=15684181&newVehicle=1&s=automotive&vehicleId=2&vehicleType=motorcycle

Here's the Deka sold by Battery Mart as the Big Crank:

There are other choices of course.
