Chrome Problems After Warranty
« on: March 01, 2007, 12:45:02 AM »

I have an 05 Banana with most of the chrome problems that have been mentioned here. 1 front wheel, 2 rears with the newest pitting now after 200 miles, Hydraulic clutch cover, rear brake pedal, 3 out of 4 floorboards, grips, air cleaner insert and fuel door. My warranty expires in April 07 and I am wondering if the MCO will cover any of these when they pit again. I called customer service and they promptly reminded me that the warranty states wheels are not under warranty! I have had no problems with my dealer covering the wheels so far, but I am afraid the no hassle policy will run out with the warranty. Does anyone know how to contact a good rep from the factory? I am going to Daytona and hope to be able to find one there. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Don't mean to be a naysayer nor a devil's advocate here.  And I am certainly of a mind in support of those who don't get adequate support from their dealers.

Warranty, however, is warranty.  Defined and accepted for a defined period. It's part of the cost of the product.

If the dealer has done an exemplary job of handling warrantable issues within the warranty period isn't that all we can ask?  It seems disingenuous if not unfair to ask for free warranty beyond the time specified at and agreed to by the purchase.

It seems, to me at least, no less fair for us to ask a dealer to freely extend a warranty then it would be for that same dealer to ask us to pay for a repair ourselves simply because the warranty was only a few days from expiring.

If it's within warranty it's their problem.  If not it's our problem.  If a dealer is so gracious or kind as to offer a freebie that's one thing.  But to be sucking up for it; I don't think so.....

Completely up to the dealer.

Porthole contacted me about all the chrome I had replaced under warranty, found out that the dealer ate alot of the parts that were replaced. I asked them for a printout of what the MOCO warrantied and what they ate. Hopefully they will have that list for me today.

Hi there turbo can you tell me why the MOCO will not warranty the wheels, I too have a banana with warranty running out in april and up to press i've had rear wheel, derby cover, rear cyl head and the recall on the tourpak light. It is an american thing or is it for us over here in uk too, more to the point how the hell can they get away with it :bananarock: :bananarock: :bananarock:

They pay their lawyers, and on this particular topic you haven't paid yours.

Have a lawyer friend send the MOCO a letter, that will document the date. Then see what happens.

I didn't know the wheels were specified any differently than other parts for warranty handling.  But as to "how" they'd get away with doing so, that's easy.  It just has to be specified in the warranty at the outset.  Whether it is or not I don't have a clue.  But if wheels are listed for different handling there than it is what it is.  Check the "exclusions" subsection in the warranty section toward the rear of the owner's manual.  If they're not listed as an exclusion than the MoCo is either trying to get one over on someone here or the rep simply had it wrong.  Either are possibilities.

I've never heard of wheels being excluded over here in the uk, I have to say the MOCO has been very good on the chrome stuff and cyl head, but not so good on the weaving probs i had/have (i'm still half convinced that it has something to do with the bat fairing and rear tyre wear as it is hardly noticable when a new tyre is fitted then it progressively comes back) but as there is no real evidence to the cure I guess they cant warranty a remedy, C'es la vie as they say in Yorkshire, PS Don, the scoots looking sweet

Turboglide and Custardglide: Did you see my thread in the general CVO discussion?

How about adding you concerns to the thread

I am at a stonewall with my bike, and soon I will have the phone message available the Milwaukee rep left me.

It seems that my factory rep Tim H. is also a metallurgist.
