Paint Warranty
« on: March 03, 2007, 07:45:27 AM »

Does anyone know if the paint warranty is the same as the standard 2 year warranty that comes with the bikes.  I have some very small bubbling on the tank of my 04 glide that looks like something was under it before it was painted.  Its barely noticeable, but I still know it. Thanks..

You've got an 04 that's still within the 2 year warranty?

San Diego Harley told me that is a cosmetic problem when I had a bubble on my rear fender, aft of the seat, and has to be claimed on delivery. Doesn't give a lot of  latitude does it?

Less if there allowed to get away it actually.  Cosmetics in paint are one of the listed exclusions in the warranty language unless it's pointed out immediately.  Your fortune cookie would read:

"Your likelihood of success in this endeavor is not good (in bed)."

Paint issues must be identified at the time of delivery, that is what I was told by HD when I called them about my paint issues on my '06 SEUC....I told the lady that I did not cause or notice the problems at delivery.  Fight on...

This might be a moot point, since you are out of warranty.........but here is the MOCO's policy.

I wasn't told that I had to make sure the paint was OK before I took delivery, I believe that is B.S. We all trust that the Big Giant Corporation aka MoCo, makes SURE for us that they are putting out a good product, I assummed that they had as much pride in their bikes and their customers, as I had in purchasing and owning one, I was wrong obviously, My guess is they use trained monkeys for quaility control, but Im sure they are Union trained monkeys, so they get paid well, plus good benefits.

Mike,

That was what I was told after I noticed my problems with my '06 SEUC....had to take off the gloves!!!!!  I was told it states that in the warranty section of the owners manual...of course like any good HD Owner I never read it and still haven't.  But rest assured when I took delivery of my '07 SEUC I brought along a flashlight and did not sign the paperwork until I saw it out in the sunlight!!!!!

I think the dealer plays a big roll in warranty claims, on my 95 fatboy they replaced the rear fender twice in 97 the paint kept coming off at the rivets ... stand your ground ...

They certainly do. It's amazing what a good dealer can do to replace bad parts. Whether they are doing it out of there own pocket or turning it in as warranty claims there are some dealers out there that believe in customer support/satisfaction.

I had two paint warranty issues on my  :cherry:. Both were well after delivery and both were documented somewhere in this forum. 1st was a hairline crack in the tourpak lid. Replaced hassle free. 2nd was a pale hand print that appeared about 2 years after delivery on fairing. Took a little more time but dealer made it good after checking w/ the moco. Minimal problems and think the service writer played a big part. Don't know who paid for it all but I didn't and guess that's what matters.

I had also had a paint defect in my tourpak lid. After the rep looked at it he ordered me a new lid. Same rep who has denied my chrome warranty - woohoo he comes in Friday.
