Six Speed Transmission
« on: October 25, 2004, 09:45:37 PM »

Has anyone installed a six speed tranny in there cvo? Been looking at the new baker six speed with out the overdrive 6th. Sounds like alot of changing things around. Wonder if its a good move or just leave it like it is , cause it works so fine with no problems as it is.

Don,
I thing I remember reading in the parts catalog that the 6 speed is not yet available for the hydraulic clutch. You might want to check on that. [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

The grapevine must be linked to the HD website as the six speed stuff is all listed there now.

2Lane.....I've always been impressed by your thoroughness and attention to detail, but you have, indeed, captured the ultimate prize.  I fear that no one else may have the ability to recall the patterns, weights and costs of custom wheel weights at 4 AM and post them as if really awake.    [smiley=beerchug.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I installed the Baker DD6 into an 03 FLHRSEI2 and the performance is incredible. [smiley=bigok.gif]
6th gear is so efficient & quite. 2000 rpm = 60 mph, 2900 rpm = 80 mph,
3200 rpm = 90 mph. Its the gear you keep lookin (stompin') for after winding thru 5th.

Hey sman28             Sounds like you got her a going for ya. What other mods have you done to your screamin demon? Did you do the job yourself or a dealer? If a dealer, wondering how much time they charged. This sounds like the best set up for the long haul. Do you have the H-D ext. warranty? I do and I'm kinda draging my feet on the Six pack change over. I'm the guy that keeps hitting the foot shift for another gear after fifth, cause the SERK has got good low end torque that it wood seem to be a natural for the sixth gear.                                  Ride on man                                 don

Don  I have a Race-tuner and a set of D&D 2 into 1 pipes which outperforms everything else I've tried. 2-1 was a dramatic change. Have not gone inside and changed anything, yet (Cams, pistons, etc)  dealer suggested we wait for overhaul around 45000. I also
have the extended warranty. 4 years. At 24000 miles I used a warranty problem in the original trans to take the dive into a 6-speed. If you do it, Baker dd6 is the only way to go. The 6 gear is a direct drive (99.7%) efficient. I bought it thru Eric @ Chicago Harley On-Line and saved 10%, the Harley Dealer charged a couple of hours to install. It fits perfect, Hydraulic clutch and all. The first 5 gears are virtually the same. I don't even look for the 6 until around 70 mph. Go for it. (It will take several weeks to get one because Baker only manufactures after the order is placed.)
