I've been here since mid April and I've rode the Black Hills many times and every ride has been great.  There are a lot of motorcycles in the Hills.....maybe as many as cars and trucks but not near as many as during the rally of years gone by.  And not so many that the rides aren't very enjoyable!

Heading up Hwy 44 out of Rapid City, I stopped a couple of places to snap pics of Rapid Creek...









I turned north on US385........

And turning left on Silver City Rd.....

15 mph twisties up over the top and down into the valley on the other side.....





As I'm coming down the other side I see a heard of cattle moving quickly up the valley towards me and I haven't passed a cattle guard.  Talk about free range cattle.....these girls and their calves are definitely free range and their on the move like there's even better food than this green pasture somewhere else.



And in just a few minutes they're on the road and it looks like they're headed up and over the top like escapees that they are....



When I got into Silver City (a city?.....there was a community hall and a volunteer fire dept. and some homes) I told somebody that there's a heard of cows out and on the other side of the cattle guard that I crossed after I left them and before I got to Silver City.  His reply "oh, they get out all the time....but they stay together".  OK......





Off in the distance is Pactola Resavoir.....the largest body of water in the Black Hills....




We have arrived in Silver City....the end of the paved road.  However, there are several dirt roads with signs that lead off in different directions.  Many dirt roads in the Black Hills if you're in a side by side, jeep or truck....









Notice the bomb sticking out of the ground in the middle of the farmers garden....









Time to turn around and head back out to US385.....

Next stop is Deadwood.....first stop is the business that restores old antique Indian motorcycles.

This, to me, was the most interesting display in the museum....



































and finally, the ride back to Rapid City.....

Iron Mtn. Rd, Wildlife Loop (through Custer State Park) and Needles Hwy. are "MUST RIDES" that you can do in one day, in a big loop....a number of one lane tunnels always creates huge traffic jams during the rally....














and deer, elk, buffalo and other wild life everywhere!!

Even around my RV everyday.  They pass through here in the morning and just before sundown.....headed to and from Rapid Creek.  These Hills are covered will all kinds of wildlife.  Not as much during the rally.....but they're still around and unfortunately, it seems like every year somebody is on the loosing end.  We saw it just a couple of days ago, coming back down out of the hills.

Big, huge buffalo will be right on the road.  Most of the time they'll leave you alone however, there's been more than one person that thought it'd be funny to rev their bike with the heard all around them.....just to be knocked off their bike.
