       I've started the breakdown to upgrade my compensator.  As I was about to drain the primary I noticed oil but not primary oil it turns out that the shifting shaft oil seal had begun to leak.
So off the lift and on the bike for a 45min run to HD dealership to get a seal, that was yesterday so  that killed getting into it by the time i got back
Could not believe it 3.60 for the seal and a major breakdown to replace it I suppose it was just as well it started leaking just now rather than after the work was done because I wouldn't have thought to have replace it. I'd  been well peeeved 
Shifting shaft oil seal is in.
Hopping all goes well I'll have the new compensator in and have it all buttoned  back up tomorrow

All back together up and running,  motor  cranks over and starts up smoother .

Got some what I think is a little  clutch wailing noise that wasn't there before  it's not so bad once it warms up.

Another job well done.  New shifter shaft seal design is much improved.  Let everything break in before worrying about a bit of whine unless it's remarkably loud.

Bearing was changed last year. I did give it the once over for any pitting and general condition,  looked good.

It's an on and off whine,  no noise when running only when at idle.  It also  comes and goes when moving slowly it'll cut out when the clutch is pulled the odd time. 

It is loud very noticeable whine.  I'm going to have pull the cover not sure what  I should check for that could be the cause .

What about alignment  ?   I just thought of it just now,  are these change over compensator assembly 36500034A  a plug and play?   Or do shims sometimes need to be installed . Don't know maybe I'm over thinking it. 

 Actually my first thought was the Hayden tensioner again after being disturbed there was whining noise from that before when I installed it but nowhere  as loud as it is now.   Still it brings me back to why it will cut out the odd time when the clutch is pulled

Hard to say.  Haven't done a more recent bike but on my '02 the service manual spells out the primary chain alignment.  Wine could be from too much chain tension.  The chain could also just be wearing in a new wear pattern in thr shoe.  Hard to diagnose over the interweb.

That's a thought the chain wearing into the new compensator sprocket.

I'll  have to pull the cover and take a look see what's going on.  Cheers

Well I think I've found the whining noisy issue.
In the pic it shows the compensating sprockets teeth are shiny on the outer edge ( suggesting the sprocket is proud to the clutch)

Have I got the sprocket on the wrong way round?  I thought I had it on the right way but don't know if there's à right or wrong way
Never mind the last line I do have it the right way round 

In the second pic you can see where the chain rollers are shiny ( the old sprocket has no shiny spots  on it)

Anyone know what's  going on with this

Got it all sorted out I removed the two shiny washers ether side of the thrust washer.

The noise is eliminated

Your shifter shaft mod on your primary case with greese fitting. Is that the seal you replaced?
