HELP ON BAGS
« on: March 06, 2007, 11:56:12 PM »

I have an 07 SERK and have an odd question and need some help.  The top inside rear corners of my bags seem to have been cut down. The top seems to have a exposed plastic jagged edge that looks to have been cut by a jig saw.
The leather is not covering the corners at this corner.  Occurs on both bags.

Have asked the dealer and he doesnt know what to tell me as they have no other SERKS.

Would appreciate if some one out there can take a look and let me know if you have the same thing going.  Again it is the TOP of the BACK INSIDER corner.

thanks for the help

I'm going into the local dealers today. They have two BI SERK's in the showroom so I'll take a look while I'm there.

Cheers,

Hi Rick - I had a look at both BI SERK's while I was in the shop. I couldn't find any jagged edges on the bags, but what I did find was that you can stick your finger through the gap between the lid and the base at the rear inside of the bag. That doesn't impress me at all as I can see dirt and water getting sucked into the bag  :'( I know that there are liners supplied with the bike, but who wants dirty liners ?

Maybe everyone else can check this out on their bikes - one of the SERK's was worse than the other.

I checked the bags on a couple of Classic's and a Custom and the design at the back of these bags leaves no gaps and the lid has a good overlap on the base of the bag.

Howie - have you missed this ?   :D

I checked the saddlebags on the wife's bike and no exposed plastic. Maybe a slight exposed peice in left saddlebag in right front corner but the palstic is very smooth. The lids fit very tight and overlap the lowers. I would say they are excellent.

These bags are as useless as the stock windscreen! How the hell do they expect you to travel with those tiny pieces fo chit? And like you said, QC, ha. They look cool, that's it. Like everything else, if you want the bike done right, you still have to set it up yourself. That's the HD way. 18 grand or 30 grand, you're only getting a starting point. You still have to make it what you want. And we all make them different and to suit ourselves. ;) Hoist! 8)

Howie - Are you okay?  I'm sensing a little frustration in your voice there.  Are you suffering from some cabin fever there Bro?  First you throw out the warranty, and now your are speaking ill of the MOCO.  Next thing you know, you will actually be talking about buying new tins and painting them something other thank black.  Perhaps :cherry:, or  :pumpkin:, or maybe even  :bananarock:

I think you're right their Ghost. Howie has swallowed a hair ball , it's got stuck and he is havin big trouble coughin it up.

I'm having the same trouble - I ordered a nice CACO SERK thinking that all the work would be done and I would be free to ride my silver dream machine straight out of the showroom. So far I've spent another $5,000.00 and I still have mapping, PC fitting, A/C fitting and Dyno work to do.

Having said that I'm still happy as a pig in ch*t apart from the fact I still don't know when my bike is going to arrive.

Hey ho such is life.

Before many of the new SERK owners became SERK owners and joined the site there was conversation here about the early release photos.  While not a universal response a very common refrain was to the effect of, "sweet bike, ugly bags."  For reasons of size, look, proportion, lack of color or a few others the bags were the most commonly disfavored part based on the original photos.  Now you guys throw in quality issues on top of that.

Still a cool lookin' bike though.

Hey gang, I've always had mixed emotions concerning my feeling about HD. I've always loved the motorcycles. Not a huge fan of Corporate America's attitude of return to shareholders, F the customers and employees. I work for a Milwaulkee Corp. that operates the exact same way. I love the bikes but flip my patch on their business practices.

Let's face it, these bags are useless P'sOS! I just got off the phone with my buddy, Freddie the Flame, my painter. He said not to worry. He's got a few bikes he's finishing now and will take my bags at the end of the month. He doesn't plan on an exact matching paint job, but told me he's got some good ideas on a complimentary paint scheme.

So, FTF, let them make the bikes. We get them, then they're ours to do what we want with. If they make an accessory I want. I'll buy it. I don't ever think twice about using a better quality aftermarket part either. But my devotion ends at the bike. There's no love lost between me and the MoCo!

Howie,

I can't wait to meet up with you at Hot Springs.  I am going to buy you a couple of  :drink:, and see if I can't get you to open up a little and tell me what you really think about things.   :huepfenlol2:

It's hard to love someone or some business that not only doesn't even extend the courtesy of a true and effective point of service contact phone number (unless they are willing to give it to you) but that actually tries to actively hide points of contact from you.  If emotion is a two way street then it's love one way and spousal abuse in return.  Yet there are the lovelorn that still put the company's name in ink on their skin.

That's why I feel like I do about it. It's a love-hate thing! I do have it engraved in my skin! And then sometimes they really piss you off! ;) Hoist!
