Hello everyone...  I've searched and searched some more, but I want to get current opinions....
I'm buying another CVO and right now, its come down to a '15 CVO Street Glide with 110 and 5k miles, and a '17 CVO Street Glide with the 114 and also 5k miles.    They are within $3k of each other, so it really isn't a money issue at this point.   Here's my problem...
 
I'm coming off an '09 FLTRSE3 with a 110 and it was prone all the typical issues.... running hot, rattling top end, detonation (mostly fixed with full exhaust and a tune), obviously tensioners can be a issues, and now I'm hearing about lifters in the 110 which is new to me.   Honestly, outside of the issues, I had no problem with the 110 from a power / riding standpoint.   I loved it and litterally cried when life made me sell it.   

Enter the new(ish) M8....  I found a good deal on the '17, but all this talk of oil pump issues, sumping etc has me concerned.   It sounds like the M8 is smoother, cooler, quieter, and it also sounds like it has the ability to make more power in the long run.   I've read that the suspension is dramatically improved as well, compared to say the '15?!?   

I'm trying to decide between the "devil" I know being the 110, and the "unknown" of the M8...   

I tend to ride in a spirited fashion, but I don't abuse my bikes.   I also ride a lot by some standards.  I'm able to usually log around 12k miles a year.... 

Once Harley addresses the oil pump, is it a done deal?   Is the Rushmore design of the '15 a dramatic shift from my '09??   Any advice would be greatly appreciated.      Thank you in advance.

Seems like a very tough decision.  I love the liquid cooled heads on my 15 CVO and I am waiting for something to happen (I have ESP)so I can switch cams from SE 585s to TTS 150s, which are in route from Steve at Fullsachs Performance in Havasu Az...I would change the cam, pipe, send the heads out on the 15 110 and replace the lifters with Johnson's or S&S, then have it dyno tuned and be happy....I would also put the screaming eagle oil pump and billet cam plate in (but this isn't necessary)

I have ridden the M8s, both the 107s and 114s, but what I am hearing is it's a 50/50 chance on the sumping issue...If you really loved the color on the 17, and appreciate the extra amp and front speakers, the only way I would chance a used M8 is to get ESP....I have also seen piston issues (scoring) on some low mile M8s (ask Steve at GMR)..As a result, you might want to put an S&S cam plate in the 2017 just to be safe..On the other hand, if this happens it is easy to upgrade your barrels and pistons on the M8s to 117,120, or 124..

Having owned an 07 96" TC, an 07 110" CVO a 2011 SESG, which I put almost 50k miles on and my current bike, a 2018 SERG which I currently have about 12K miles on, my suggestion is definitely to go for the M8. I had one of my local tech's do essentially a GMR 113 upgrade on my 2011 110" with everything from an S&S lower end (flywheel setup) to GMR cams and beehives and 58mm TB, Screamin Eagle cam plate and oil pump, S&S lifters and of course the full Fullsac treatment. All I have done to my current bike performance wise is the Fullsac treatment (headpipe, 2" baffles, tech mat, and TTS) plus a tune and I upgraded the A/C... and I MUCH prefer the M8 and Rushmore treatment on ALL levels.
I would however recommend going with an 18 or newer to avoid the radiators and all that the water cooled heads involve. Just seems that that will alleviate issues down the road and the M8s seem to run cool enough anyway, especially if you add the oil cooler fan.
If you are worried about the sumping issue you can gamble as I have (to a point, with zero issues by the way) or you can always purchase an extended warranty (ESP).

I've owned a 2017 cvo limited for close to 2 years and 13k miles so far. Zero issues and the best cvo out of the 5 I've owned so far since 2003.

M8, 1/10,0000 chance to sump, I have 29,000 mile on mine with no issues. If you go with the 110 you'll be replacing the lifters around 20k. So M8 and possible sump or 110 and lifters?

I have had both bikes. I personally would have stayed with my 15 if I would not have loved the blue on the 17 so much. I still can not get used to the sound on my M-8 and I have tried a few different exhaust combos. The other improvements on the 17 over the 15 are kind of minimal IMO. The power locks on the 17 bags are a nice feature tho. I did purchase the Discount ESP warranty tho on my 17 for piece of mind. Go with your gut as both are awesome bikes!

I vote going with the M8.

I didn't ever get to ride a 110 specifically, but the problems I had with the twin cams I had... [120R & 124LC S&S]

Knock on wood the M8 has been issue free, all be it relatively stock...

The Sumping seems to be hit or miss, I read someplace that Stage 3 & 4 helped it out, but purely speculation on my part. Truthfully, I'd look at the 2019's, the third set of lower speakers, the 117", and that new wowie GTS headunit would be sweet. I just don't really care for this years colours. Heck - I was a little disappointed when the 2018's came out with speakers and 117", but same thing - didn't like the colours.

Good luck, hopefully there is some warranty on whatever you decide.

I also have had two 110 CVO Limited bikes 2013 and 2016  26,000 miles on the 13, 40,000  miles on the 16 and now have a 2019 with only 5,000 miles with no real issues on any of the three. I really like the M 8 motor for the better power and its all stock,I had cams, thunder max tuners, and full sack exhaust on the 110s but feel the stock M 8 would out pull the others. I ride with a friend with a 2017 Limited with 35,000 miles ( 25,000 ) this year with no issues. The only problem I am having is transmission oil migrating to the primary, you don’t see many people talking about it happening but then unless you measure the amount of oil you drain out of your primary how would you know. I was told mother Harley accepts 6 ounces migration, I feel there should be no migration as the owners manual says do not overfill the primary as it can cause clutch problems. never had any migration on the 110s. Don’t know if this helps your decision but buy what you want. Some dealers are venting the primary to fix the migration problem. Just FYI.

I have had an 09, 12, 13, and 15 CVO with the 110.  I have had an 17, 18 and 19 CVO M8.

The M8 is a better engine in my opinion.  A 100% stock M8 makes as much if not more torque and HP then a 110 with a good head pipe, mufflers and a Good dyno tune.

Also the torque comes on at a lower RPM.

The suspension was improved in the front in 2014.  It was improved again in 17 front and rear.

The 114 is better than the 110.  The 117 is better than the 114.  Was shocked I could feel a difference.  Then my research showed it has a better cam.  The 117 CVO cam is very similar to the M8 Stage III cam.

Thank you everyone for the input and help, I appreciate it and ultimately it carried weight with my decision.    I love the 15' paint schemes, but I honestly want the new M8 117 which is simply too expensive for me at this point.   Rather than go completely without a bike, because well....  that sucks and I'm not going to do that anymore...  I went to plan B.   I've always wanted a little bike to go with my bagger so I had something just to run around on, go to work, short rides, etc.   So I decided to buy my little bike first.   I found a incredible "Winter Deal" on my little bike.   A 2006 Fatboy CVO, Autumn Blaze / Abyss Blue.   While its not nearly as exciting as picking up a bagger, I'm excited because this is the first time I just straight up paid for my CVO, didn't even have to finance it.

By the looks of what is on the work bench, you've been quite busy making that new "purdy" bike even better!

Sweet looking ride that no doubt you will have fun on, and with all the money you've saved you can now go town on customizing it to make it your very own!
