Highway Pegs
« on: October 30, 2004, 07:37:22 PM »

What do you have on your bike? Since HD doesn't have the stealth highway pegs I'm racking my peanut brain to figure out what would look the best and be most functional. So far I'm looking at Kuryakyn Tour-Tech cruise mounts for 1-1/4" engine guards (Part # 4526). And I will either use the switchblade footpegs (#4445) or the ISO stirrups with dually pegs (#8062). Any suggestions or pictures would be Greatly Appreciated !!!! Thanks      JRud    :>)

JRud, a lot of guys here have gone with the airfoil ones from H-D.  This link will take you to an old "Stealth Collection" thread with a photo I posted of them: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=eg_gen;action=display;num=1079493525;start=1#1

Here is my deal, HD Billet Chr Mounts with the Air Foil pegs and the bullet mounting bolts. Works good for me, Ride with my heel on the board and toes on the hi-way peg. If you look close you will see the invisishield on the lower. So far it has protected it well.

DW, Sure do appreciate those pics. And that invisishield sure is doing its job being invisible....... I can't see nothing!!  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] I take it from other threads that there must be a need for a guard to keep boot from rubbing the lowers.....right about where your invisishield is at. [smiley=laugh.gif] Thanks again for the pics DW  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif][smiley=beerchug.gif]

Started trying to type a description of how the ones I chose are and what they do.  But didn't think it'd make sense without seeing it also.  So just grabbed the camera and took some pics real quick.  Here ya go....

These are Kuryakyn parts 4526 (mounts) and 4445 (pegs).  I looked at everything I could find before picking these pegs and mounts.  The arm is infinitely adjustable in the 360 degree arc.  The arm has a little allen set screw that works as an adjustment for the peg (the peg rests against the set screw as it folds away from you).  This allows a lot of adjustment to bring the peg closer to or farther away from you.  This also effectively adjusts the angle at which your foot is resting.  This works very well in conjunction with the ability to swing the arm itself closer to or farther away from you by rotating the arm itself on the other axis.

I chose the pegs with the stirrups just for the extra position to rest on long rides.  Can never have too many different ways to stretch out.  I'm 5'9" and positioned as these are I can lay my foot all the way on top, directly against the peg, or against the peg and stirrup.  Can also keep my heel on the footboards and just rest my foot outboard against the pegs or the stirrups.  The stirrups work very easily and are a snap to kick up or down while going down the road.  You can do it without looking once you've done it a time or two.   Also, the ways these are mounted I never rub the lowers with a boot or pant.

While I think most all pegs aren't the best looking addition in the world I wouldn't take a trip without them.  And these don't look too awful; for a peg.

The ONLY downside to the Kurykan Stirrup folddown pegs is... THEY ARE ON EVERY GOLD WING IN FLORIDA and the other Jap Riders are looking for a place to buy them.  But then has any one tried the new HD Heel Rest extensions in conjuction with there highway pegs? I want the advantage of the heel rest but can not use the Kurykan part and save face with friends. The HD's are $110 and then you can match the rest to your shifter pegs which is cool, just wish someone else would try it first. Anyone tried???

Yeah, I know they're used elsewhere a lot.  I didn't care.  I got 'em caused they worked, were comfortable, and did what I want them to.  Everything else is somebody else's problem.... [smiley=toilet.gif]

2lane, these stirrups, do they swing up under the peg?  Your photo #1 and #2 are identical except you can see the stirrup in #2.  If so, I think that would make for a lot cleaner-looking setup when the pegs are up and not in use.  I think with the H-D alternative the heel rest is not movable once installed so they can look a bit "clunky" when the bike's parked.
