07 SEUC stalling off idle
« on: March 12, 2007, 08:54:12 PM »

Is anyone having any issue with their bike stalling on takeoff from idle?  It happend twice today...as I started to twist the throttle it'd give a little back fire and stall.  It also did it before the ACM recall as well.

Now this could be my poor rider technique, by easing the clutch before enough RPMs have been achieved.  However, today I made sure that I was not letting out on the clutch before I wrapped the throttle...still stalled a few times.

Also seems more susceptible when hotter.

Just curious

6Gun, I had this exact problem, well almost... I opened up that throttle, right next to Unbalenced, and the next thing I knew... it just started stalling. Come to think about it though, the RPMs were a little too high.  ;D  :orange:  ;D  :orange:  ;D

Yup, Same problem here. It did it stock and still does if after 2 into 1's, PCIII, A N big sucker and at 2000 miles. Like yours, mostly when its warmer out.  I would like to find a cure before I git tagged from the rear!

So far, so good.  2k on the clock and no problems at all.  Keeping my fingers crossed for good luck.

I was a little reluctant throwing this issue out here, but I've been riding for over thirty years so I figure it can't be my technique...however, I am 49!

Before the advent of electronic fuel injection, we constantly had to wrap the throttle at stop lights and such.  But now that shouldn't be required due to these new systems.

If you drive a manual transmission vehicle (truck or car) do you constantly step on and off the accelerator at stop lights? No.

I would like to hear a little more from SEUC riders as the summer temps arrive, I can't believe that others are not experiencing this besides us few.

Would a slightly higher idle help?

There is no accelerator pump in our bikes, it's all done by computer I suppose.

Trapperdog...do you have a race tuner or the like on your machine?  I wonder if a little different program would stop it?

I've got an 06 and never had the problem other than once, and that was operator error.  You should never have to goose the throttle at redlights on an EFI bike.  If you have a PCIII, there is an accelerator pump function which can be enbabled through a download from the Dynojet site, but this really should not be necessary, IMO.  I think the Tmax also has this feature.  Does it seem to be happening more often when the ambient temps are higher?

It was a big problem for some with the 06 bikes too.

Mostly resolved with flashes or SERT/PC's.  Here's a thread: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=4501.0

Mine would "pop" cold and in a turn from a stop.  Tough to get the foot down quickly enough a couple of times.  I too have been riding sind the 70's and it does make you second guess if it was you or the bike.  It's the bike.

SERT/PC is the best answer IMHO, in fact a few here on the '06 bikes got it on warranty, but I think the warranty covering it option is gone thanks to the EPA.

I haven't had a problem of stalling, but I have had a couple of surprising misses. It usually seems to happen in 1st or 2nd, coughs a time or two and then catches fine. I'm hoping I can tune it out.

Hey sixgun, Yes I have the PCIII but have not had it on the dyno for an exact fuel map but that will be coming up soon! Not too many maps out there for a 110 with 2 into 1's so I have a generic map right now. I guess it's always possible that opperator error is a contributing factor, but I have never had this happen on any of my other bikes and I have been riding on and off for over 35 years. But then again, maybe I am just old, and yes, my last Harley was fuel injected. ( '05 Heritage)

That's the symptom Chief.  Wait 'til it does it from a sopt when your are starting out with a left turn.  Coughs right in the middle of it and you have an "oh chit" moment.  Tuning will get it out of there with a good dyno man and SERT/PC.

I had this exact same problem with my 2004 Road King. The dealer called it "Hiccupping" and attempted to re-flash the ecm with a new download ( was NOT using a SERT or PCIII ) without any help. I sold the bike before I could correct the problem and had this also happened a few times on my 07 SEUC in stock form. After switching the exhaust out and adding the SERT it never did it again. I just replaced the stock ECM and SERT with a Zippers thundermax unit and autotune and ran the bike for a few hours yesterday. It is running like a champ without any noticeable flat spots, power loss, idle issues, etc. I had been originally told by my dealer that the Hiccupping issue was caused by not having the new 25 degree injectors but I doubt that was the culprit.

I hope he wasn't referring to your SEUC, cuz they have the 25 degree injectors ... he needs to do some homework...
