Brand New 1957 Plymouth
« on: March 15, 2007, 10:39:07 AM »

Ever heard the stories about the brand new old lump out in the barn that someone got for five bucks?

Well if you are a good prognosticator you might get a 1957 Belvedere for free.....in near perfect condition.

As part of the "Tulsarama!" festivities, citizens of Tulsa were asked to guess what the population of Tulsa would be in the year 2007. The guesses were then recorded on microfilm and sealed in a steel container buried with the car. When the car and artifacts are excavated, the person whose guess is closest to Tulsa's 2007 population is to be awarded the Belvedere

Check out the video here, pretty cool really.  http://www.buriedcar.com/index.cfm?pageId=1

Roger,
Great story, looking forward to seeing what the car looks like when they remove it. Great piece of history.

Thanks for posting,

We must have members that live near there to keep track of it.  Someone should figure out how to enter the drawing.

That is really cool.  I'm only a couple of hours from Tulsa.  I'll find out when they're digging that old girl up, that'll give Twolane and I an excuse to hop on the bikes and head down there for the excavation.

I am waiting for the 2021 time capsule, I heard from a reliable source that they have a 71 Hemi Cuda 4 speed convertible in there. Now if I could just remember what city that was....

Is it a drawing you can enter?  Unless I (quickly) misread the page the entrants picked what they thought the future population to be in 1957.  The person that got closest won.  Lots of prospective winners likely dead or away and forgotten.

I'm with Ghost Rider though.  Definitely worth going to see.  I like those old Plymouths.

It must have been the proper use of English that got me.  Wow, I wonder if the winner is alive?

That would be pretty cool.  Now if only they could make the winner the age they were when they guessed.

Rog,
You seem to be a bit tilted tonight buddy. Did you open one of those 20 year old H-D beers and drink it ?  Harley gave them away free the first few years they made them at their old location at the Daytona Beach Holiday Inn (before the Ocean Center)  They were gawd awful even cold and fresh. Only year they were any good was the year or so Miller made em.

Hey B B, thanks for the heads up, I think I'm on a nostalgia kick, my "old timers" is kicking in.  Houses going up all around the neighborhood, civil-eye-friggin-zation has come to the country.  When I moved here everyone thought I was nuts to buy a house that was a 20 minute commute.  Crappy school district, no services, no stores except one drugstore (mercantile) and and independent grocery (best ever).

Imagine paying $160k for a house in 1979 in the boonies they said.  Well imagine the piece o' chit is worth today sittin' on 135 front feet of low bank lake.  If I didn't like it here so much I would be another 20 miles out in the sticks right now.  I guess that's what the new getaway joint is for.

Anyway I digress, I imagine that the HD brew is a bit like Billy Beer, just another way to create some chatter and revenue.  Kind of like their coffee.

I'm not totally decided on the beers ultimate resting place but I have a few thoughts kickin' around.  Not the least of which may involve a particular gathering in another country in the sunshine of summer with a bunch of buddies and their spouses/significant others.

So if I at times I wax poetic, it's may only be cause I can't ride over to your joint and avail myself of your bar, some good company, and chatter about the good ol' days.  (which is actually right now in a lot of respects) :2vrolijk_21:

No worries, you're still in the honeymoon phase :bananarock:

I wish I'd have burried my 66 Chev Impala SS we bought new and about 15 other cars too.  Of course there's a lot I wish but no point in going on with this line of thought.

This thread reminds me of a story about a Corvette in Maine. I'm foggy on the year, but there was a local supermarket chain named Sampson's (since gobbled up by the maw of Corporate America) The owner of the grocery chain had a late 50's Corvette encased in a cinderblock bldg with no windows, doors etc. The idea being to break down the wall some 25 years later. When said 25 years had elapsed the bldg was entered and the car was a shambles. Dry rot, rust you name it for lack of any kind of temp/humidity control or preservation methods. I can only wonder what a cur buried below ground will look like when disentombed.

It will be interesting to see.  It appears watching the video the did make son=me provisions for preserving it, in a swimming pool type vessel, covered the motor with a foil like cover etc. etc.

Only time will tell when they unearth it.
