Adding Tri-Bar fender extension questions
« on: June 18, 2019, 05:01:34 AM »

For those of you who added the Tri-Bar fender extension on your CVO that is painted in Carbon Dust/Autumn Sunset what color did you use? I saw one that said they had used Vivid Black.
So my question is how well does this color match up to the Carbon Black? I am wanting to do this mod on my new to me CVO. I did this to my 2011 RGU and got the part color matched from Harley at the time. Just want to make sure it isn't going to look like crap if I get one in Vivid Black.

Thanks.

I thought I had read some of the people with the Carbon Dust/Autumn Sunset paint had added the tri-bar fascia?
Just hoping to find a Black color that is DANG NAB close to matching without having to send parts out to be painted. If I do have to so be it.
Carbon Dust isn't listed in the Harley catalog for any color match parts.

Well after installing the gloss black center console on my bike and how close it matches I think I am going to try a fascia in Vivid Black. I found one on Ebay for a okay price.

I haven't done that yet. I was trying to find someone else who had done it before me and what color they had used if they didn't get it color matched. As you can see no one has replied.
I'm willing to take the chance that a different color might be close enough to not be obvious unless you were right up next to it. The closest paint shop that might be able to do any paint matching is about 3 hours away so it isn't like I just run down to a local painter.

Well I ordered one in Gloss Black so we'll see how well it matches the stock paint. Once I get the parts in I'll make sure and post up pictures and let all know what I think of it.

Rear fender extension came in today and the tri-bar light got here on Wednesday. Of course I bought a CHEAP one off Amazon and the plug that came with it DOESN'T work.

So here is the fender extension.

With the light installed in the extension.

And then on the bike. But before I start drilling any holes or anything else I need to figure the wiring out. So either get some spare plugs that I can add the wires for the light or buy a better light from Custom Dynamics.

I did the same thing on mine and in the big tail light, there's a hole for that plug to pass though and also plug right into the light. Have you pulled the red lens to check?

OBB,
Yes I have the taillight off and the plug they sent doesn't plug into any of the spots in the taillight housing. I just got done sending Custom Dynamics a email asking which light they sell will work on my bike.

Here is the plug that came with the Eagle tri-bar light.  https://www.eaglelights.com/collections/harley-davidson-tail-lights/products/eagle-lights-smoked-tri-bar-led-tail-fender-tip-light-for-harley-road-glide-flhrx-fltrxs-14-18-for-harley-davidson

So as you can see it doesn't fit in any of the spots on the taillight housing. Will see what Custom Dynamics has to say on Monday.

That sucks. I think the light I bought is the one for an '07 or '08. Can't remember. U know it plugged right in though. It's run/brake both. Nothing fancy, just a Harley light.

Well it seems even the Tri-Bar from Custom Dynamics will not plug into the taillight housing on my bike.

Good Morning,

No the plug would not plug into the circuit board behind the taillight,  typically on models that come equipped with a tri-bar version 1 the plug is located on the side of the fender behind the left hand saddle bag on the stock wiring harness.
There would be no plug and play product for your custom application. You would have to wire the light to its needed connections at a convenient spot on the bike.

Thanks

So it seems I will have to wire this in on my own if I want to do this. Or maybe I'll just breakdown and buy a HD tri-bar. The main reason I had bought the Eagle tri-bar was for the added turn signals in the tri-bar. I'm a firm believer in having MORE lights out back to try and make people see you.

Just so if someone does a search and comes up with this thread here are the part #'s for the items you need for the rear fender fascia.

Stud Plate- 59818-09  this has 3 studs on it and is what holds the fascia on each side. (Note: On some bikes you are going to have to drill holes in your rear fender)

Nut Flange Cruise Control- 7499  you need a total of 6 nuts and they come 3 to each bag.

Torx Pan Head Screw- 2995 you need 2 screws to attach the Tri-Bar to the fascia and there are 4 in the bag.

Rear Fender Fascia- 57300010 Or also called the rear fender extension. I like the look and like the Tri-Bar so I have added it my last bike also.

The rear fascia for some colors is hard to come by. I plan on mounting mine now and then come this winter I'll pull it and have it painted to match the bike along with some saddlebag lids with speaker cutouts.
