Regulator Kaput
« on: August 10, 2019, 08:41:48 PM »

Regulator was working overtime, even had the stereo shutting down and gauge was pegged. Had it replaced under warranty today so fingers crossed. Supposedly a very rare occurrence with the new regulators and M8's. Also switched rear pads to Lyndall Gold. Had some glazing going on which made them squeak occasionally. Couldn't live with that and the Lyndalls have great reviews online and from tech's and a buddy of mine that I spoke with.

What year is you CVO?   I’ve not had glazing that I know of, but breaks used to have more bite to them a year ago.  I got my CVO in April 2018.  About 1200 miles on it now.  They put new pads on the back during 10k service claiming they were extraordinarily worn down for 10k miles.  Whatever.

It's a 2018 with 20k on it. There was plenty of meat left on the pads and they were working fine. I could have just removed them and scuffed them up as to remove the glazing that was causing them to squeak, and put them back in and probably gotten another 10k or more out of them but chose to replace with better quality instead.

I'm assuming you have 12,000 miles on your bike not 1200, but needing to be changed at 10k would be far from normal. I've gotten 50k out of them in the past but I'm sure that has a lot to do with riding style and the quality or lack there of, of the pads themselves. I'd be asking a few more questions to your dealer because what you're describing would be a defect ie, bad pads or warped rotors OR it's your personal riding style.

Good luck and be safe.

Agree with Rayson56.  No way your rear pads should be worn that much at 10K miles, unless you do something regularly that requires constant rear brake application...like slow-race competitions, or slow speed maneuvering, or you are riding the brake pedal.

The other possibility is the rear brake was stuck in the "applied" mode, but that indicates a problem with the caliper/brake hydraulic system...which should be covered under warranty.

Stator failed on my wife's 2017 Roac Glide Special, and the replacement part was on back order for the 107 M-8 motor.

That sucks Dave. What pissed me off was when I originally had it diagnosed, a week and a half ago, Harley had plenty available but there wasn't a regulator on the shelf anywhere in western Washington and there are several dealers here!
The reasoning was "the new style never goes out", so I had to wait over a week to have it installed. Even offered to pay for expedited shipping, but was told that it could be a waste of money because they probably couldn't get to it anyway!?! Busy time of year.  >:(
In the rear view now and all is good.

Her Stator came out of KY, as none local.  Her bike was almost 2 months out of warranty
