Corbin TOur seat for CVO Ultra
« on: March 17, 2007, 03:52:54 AM »

Has anyone got any info on the Corbin seat for the Screaming Eagle Ultra I saw it advertised in an Iron works magazine. It has the ostrich insert and what appears to be more comfort in the seat and is also heated and already has the correct hookup to plug right into the existing harness. And of course there is a matching backrest.
Just checking it is pretty expensive at 899 and and 200+ for the backrest, but this stock seat is wearing my rear out on distance rides any info will be appreciated I like the fact that it matches the theme of the odd ball tour pack (Which I think is the worst item on the SE Ultra, What were they thinking?) And I love my heated seat for those early frosty mornings. Please let me know if anyone has purchased one or has any info about it before I shell out the cash
Thanks

Chanman,
Several of the site members have purchased the Corbin seat for the SEUC and they love it.  I'm sure some of them will reply here.  The only reason I haven't replaced mine is that the Corbin has a single heat control instead of the dual control (front/back) that the stock seat has.  My need for heat is vastly different than my wife's and would be a problem for me.

I have the Corbin seat you are speaking of...absolutely some of the BEST money I've spent on the bike!!!  Night and day difference over stock when doing anything over 200 miles in a day.  The stock seat was a torture chamber for my tailbone!!!  I also find the heat to be more effective and even.  The seat fits the bike better, in that it it's "tighter", if that makes any sense.  Give me a minute and I'll post a link to some pics of mine when I put it on.

Here's the link:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=8947.0

Corbin will modify the seat a bit if needed.  I'm short, with a 29" inseam, so I had them do what they call a "nose job"....they shave a bit of foam off the part of the seat where your legs will be when your feet are on the ground...basically makes that part of the seat a bit narrower.  they can also move the seating position forward or back an inch or so, but be mindfull that the backrest location is dictated by the seat pan, so cannot be moved.  The backrest is adjustable, but the adjustment is limited.  You must get a stitching pattern if you want heat in a Corbin...mine has the tuck and roll, which I think goes with the lines of the bike.  I was not sure if I would like the stitching, but found that I actually think it looks better.

One other thing...because the seat does not collapse when you sit on it, the net effect is that it is a slightly taller seat.  I've done 600 mile days on the Corbin with no complaints from my a$$.

How much did that Corbin cost you?

I got a 10% discount through some talking...since they give that discount at the bike events like Daytona, they may give it to you if you were to order it now.  I got the heat with factory plug-in, tuck and roll, solid backrest (instead of the Oval)...I think the price to my door was $1089.

Not everyone likes Corbins, as they are very firm seats...it takes a couple of thousand miles to get it broken in, but the comfort for me was immediate.  We did 2K+ miles just after install before Thanksgiving.  My butt would have been miserable on that trip with the stock seat.  I ebayed the stock to recover some of the cost (about 1/2).

TC, I did not remember that you'd gotten the solid backrest.  Was their a particular reason why?  Or just best guess as to what would be more comfortable?

When I'm down there be sure and try mine for long enough to see what it feels like.  Two Road Kings ago I had what was then their version of the solid backrest.  Then with the last Road King I got the Oval with the hole in it.  I liked it better.  Anyway, be sure and try it out for awhile when we hook up.

Don...it had more to do with the total look on my bike.  The solid is comfortable, but then I've only got the stock POS to compare to.  It was more about continuing the Ostrich theme down the center...if there had been a hole in that theme, I'm not sure how that would look :nixweiss:

Ah, wasn't even thinking about the ostrich.  Simply for looks of the rests themselves, without considering material options, I actually preferred the oval rest with the hole in it.  So I was quite pleased when I liked it better too.  And it's great to hang your helmet strap through  :P .

You would lose most if not all of the visual impact of material theme with that big hole in the middle though.  Y'know the best thing about that though?  They're both good options.  I've liked them both so no one is really missing anything either way.

I thought a lot about that before I decided....if I had an SEEG or a Street Glide, where the TP is off some of the time, and there would be a need for two backrests if one rode with a passenger a good bit of the time, the Oval would probably be my choice, as it gives a "lighter" appearance.  Like you said, they're both good, with the curve to actually fit your back and not just some flat board behind you.

No, Corbin does not do any kind of puffy seat...the whole premise with a Corbin is the firmer foam and the stiffer seat pan.  The seat weighs about 2 times what the stock seat weighs, does not flex like the thin plastic seat pan on the stock seat.  It's not for everyone, but it sure works for me.  I even had the stock seat "reinforced" at a local shop...it helped just a bit, but after I had 3K on the bike, and on the longer days in the saddle, I felt like I was sitting on the frame with a hot poker up my a$$ and somebody had a ball peen hammer, tapping on the end of my spinal cord.

It's on the muffler itself Terry.  It's been there a long long time.  Put the mufflers and pipes on when the bike was a couple weeks old.  Appointment the next day at the dyno shop to get the Power Commander spooled up.  Dyno guy had a completely legit need to reschedule.  Ran around without the tuning done for about a week.  Got blue.  Been there ever since.
