Pillion space on FLHTCUSE2
« on: March 17, 2007, 01:57:01 PM »

Had my FLHTCUSE2 for a week and have done 500 very comfortable miles, however I just took my wife for a spin WITHOUT the rider backrest and she's complaining she has very little room as a pillion compared to my last ride - a 2002 Roadking Classic with sissy bar. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it possible to move the tour-pak back at all? :-\

CVOSteve,

On the FLHTCUSE2 you don't need the relocation brackets as with the older models. The tourpack comes pre-drilled to set the tourpack back an inch and a half. It is a real easy 30 minute job (5 bolts) to slide it back. Just be careful with the Amp under the tourpack.

Hey! thank's for that, nearly spent $140 for George Anderson kit. I'll be up bright & early (i'm in UK) tomorrow, hopefully stop wife from moaning.

Sorry, just assumed you'd used up the stock available adjustment already.  There is a bit over an inch to be gained there.  If that's not enough to keep the passenger happy then look at the other part.  Good luck!

Mark, the older bikes had the extra set of holes also.  Some passengers didn't seem to think that gains them enough space though.  Always good to do the free stuff first though  :2vrolijk_21: .

There's another set of holes further back than the way it's supposed to be set up in the first place?

When the bikes are shipped (at least the 06 models), the TP is in the forward most holes for crating purposes...when the dealer sets it up, they are supposed to move it to the rear holes, but many here have found that not to be the case.  If it's already in those rear holes, I don't think there is any further movement available rearward without the bracket, unless they changed it in 07.

No TC, there are only two sets of mounting holes (for any of them).  But without regard to where dealers are supposed to install them when they turn the tour pak around for final installation it seems that 90% of the get done using the mounting holes that have the tour pak farthest forward (i.e., most limiting passenger space).

Hey, just thought of something.  The bikes shipped with "regular" tour paks all come with the tour paks mounted backwards so they don't stick out beyond the rear fender and can, therefore, fit in the shipping container.  But the leather paks aren't as deep.  Do you know if they arrive at the dealers mounted backwards also?

Mine came mounted in the front holes giving more room but not enough.  :nixweiss:

Don't know, Don...I didn't get to see mine coming out of the crate, but I'll bet it's not backwards, just in the forward holes.  I guess I got lucky and my purchasing dealer in Mobile actually followed the directions for set-up, as mine was in the rear holes.

I specifically told my dealer to make sure that the tour pak was mounted in the rear-most set of holes prior to delivery.  I still haven't had the wife on the bike yet though. So the jury's still out on whether that will be enough.

I moved the Tour-Pak back as suggested and my wife says the extra inch or so makes all the difference, lol,
