« on: November 22, 2019, 01:58:37 PM »

How do I find paint code name and paint color codes for my 2012 cvo7 in my id?

I rear ended a 4runner avoiding 2 idiots merging into each other last night.

Need to know paint codes to make up a new fender
And paint the new handlebars I made

Color code isn't going to be found in the VIN. If you have a paint/body shop that deals w/PPG paints they may be able to look it up, or if they have the camera that can read paint codes they should be able to read the mixture from an undamaged part in that color. Other option is to check or Vendor and Customer Service Reports for recommendations of painters, and then our Vendor Discounts for those that offer discounts to our members.

Information provided by FiredOOd is correct. It helps if you know the name of the color(s). PPG will list HD colors by the name assigned by Harley the year they were offered. This has always worked for me. The SpecCamera works as well but it is not a end-all-do-all. After obtaining a color and a mixing formula that mix will still require some additional work by the painter to be a perfect match, but it will definitely get you off to a good start.
Does HD no longer offer this fender painted? Most times on a single item you can buy a painted part cheaper than buying a primed one, paying for color (Color can be hundreds of dollars, not counting additives, pearls, activators) then you have very expensive high end clear plus labor for the painter followed by cut & buff. Your fender is apparently two-toned? Labor & materials will exceed cost of painted part, if it is available. Don't you have insurance? It will buy you a new painted part in most cases.

First harley quote was over $1k for the fender...

That's nuts.

By the time you buy a primed fender, cost of paint, and labor you are going to be close to that if not more. Paint work ain't cheap... I was shocked when I had some work done... cost of paint (I purchased a half pint) in itself is more expensive than a half gallon of top shelf bourbon and that didn't include the clear coat (most paint shops will have plenty of that on hand). :o :(

I was told by the parts guy on my 2012 CVO StreetGlide there was a tag on the under side of the fuel tank.
Lifted it and it was there.
Also when I had the inner fairing painted on my 13 thru the dealer the final price was more than special order from factory, they did match the price.

if you go to the Harley sip site, you can get a download manual by year of painted parts and the corresponding hd code.  not that you could take it to your painter and have him do anything with it, but it will show what colors were available, and the part numbers.  it could help you in your search for used or nos parts.
