An updated motorcycle shipping thread (from previous topic)
« on: March 20, 2007, 11:39:20 PM »

OK, I actually did do a search and found a thread on motorcycle shipping....

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=4894.0

However, there is a major hickjack about halfway through ;D that takes it another direction.

So far there is Allied, Hog Hauler, and Keyboard that seem to be highly recommended.  Anyone have any updates or experience with any other companies?

I used EagleOne to ship my bike from NJ to CA.  They only transport motorcycles, not other cargo, so they know how to take care of your scooter.  It was $610 in August 2005, and the bike was perfect when they unloaded it at my house.

I too have used www.eagleoneexpress.com  like Ernie with no problems.
They only have 4-5 outfits, I believe, so if you just miss them in your area for p/u, they may be a week before they come back thru.

Also try www.haulbikes.com  based out of Milwaukee..  I have not used them though.

I have used Allied for over 5 years and have never had a complaint about them ..... their prices seem to be fair ....and they are fairly prompt .....

I recently used Federal, which is an Allied company.  It was not a good experience.  The bike came damaged, my friend who accepted for me missed it, and they denied responsibility because of this despite the fact that the Harley dealership had taken pictures before it left.  It was the kind of damaged that obviously wasn't from an accident on the road but because of shipping. Also, it was 7 degrees out, with ice on the ground, I obviously hadn't gone out for a joy ride. I did fight it and they agreed to pay for half of the damage.  The Harley dealership (in upstate NY) had used them many times before without incident.  They were disgusted by the denial since it was so obvious.

They might be a very good company and my experience might have been unusual, I dont know.  I would not use them again.

Also, pay the extra 20 bucks and get the no deductable insurance.  I would have been out $800 instead of $400 if I cheaped out on that one.

I thought Allied was in bankruptcy, since my car shipments currently suck.  I looked it up and they are getting ready to come out of bankruptcy and just reached a settlement with the teamsters for a 15% reduction in pay.

I think I would steer clear of them since there are many other recommendations here.  JMP

I think I would use Keyboard east/west, HogHaulers norht/south.

I have shipped approximately 30 times over 10 years with HogHaulers and have zero complaints.  Since they are in the northwest they primarily run the coast and AZ to WA/OR although the do hit the east coast as well.  I have used them into Texas twice from Washington.

New wrinkle on shipping.  When shipping to your home it's not a big deal if the bike comes a day or two late.  If you are shipping to a rally like Sturgis, you don't want to wait a couple days for your scooter's arrival.  I am going to Sturgis  and need to ship my bike one way and ride back to Arizona.  I need a reliable hauler that maintains a tractor trailer  at the event so the bike can be picked up when I am ready.  Anybody got a name?

I've got a Yamaha FZ1 to ship from Memphis to San Fancisco.  I'm an AMA member and they offer a member discount through Federal Companies.  They mentioned that they use Allied and they will take the bike uncrated.  Do all of these services take them uncrated and provide some crating or container to protect the bike?
