2017 CVO Street Glide switched power
« on: March 31, 2020, 03:22:02 PM »

I'm going to do a radar detector installation on my 2017 CVO Street Glide. Is there a recommended place to grab switched power?

Thanks!

There should be at least a couple places inside the fairing where you could piggyback the necessary power, assuming you are only talking a few amps.  There is a connector in the fairing for heated grips, even though Harley doesn't install them on the Street Glide.  That should be a switched source.  Then there is a P&A accessory circuit that powers what used to be the cigar lighter and is now called a power port.  Instead of using an external plug in the power port, splice into the power wire that feeds it inside the fairing.  I assume you want a fixed connection and not a removable one. The power port is switched on with the ignition or the accessory circuit.

Thanks Jerry. I'm trying to do a built in Escort 9500Ci so I was going to try and connect main unit with power under my seat. With low amps do you think I could pull from my heated seat?

If you want to run power from that area, there is an accessory connector behind the right side cover.  No need to try to run power from the heated seat (and I wouldn't recommend that circuit anyway).  The accessory connector has an option for a switched power source, so that would be perfect.  Harley sells a connection kit that plugs into the accessory connector, then you can connect your power wire from the radar detector to the switched circuit wire of that connection kit harness.  It's not exactly plug and play, so you might want to check out that connection kit and the instructions to see if that's the way you want to go.
