I have always liked leather bags on a Harley :-)

98, 02, and 07 attached. Same seat and seat rail and pipes, almost.  Old habits are hard to change.

Yes, for touring, hard bags, fairing and trunk are better, no questions asked

That 95th is nice e4.  I like the RK Classic bags.  Had one myself for several years.  They are a nice line on that bike and the trim helps them a lot.  That 95th anniv. Road King is one of my all time favorites.  Nice bike.

Ended up replacing the leather bags on my road king classic with hard bags so they would be lockable.

On the 95th ann RK, the bags are huge, carry waaaaay more than the hard bags on the SEEG.  I had just assumed the same capacity for the new RKs.  Love the flames stitched into the top.  Not looking that closely at them and never seeing one next to a RK classic, did not realise how small they actually were until Hoist opened his up and showed us how small they were inside.  And they are small.  Now, what BB about them being sporty, OK, I will give you that.  Perhaps they are a little sportier.  But, they are really small.  Not my bike, so no biggie to me.

Candy, the Classic bags are larger inside than the hard bags? I wasn't aware of that. It might be better to find a set of them instead of continuing torturing myself tring to get my bags painted. Can you please make sure I heard you right. There's more room in the Classic Bags than the Hard Bags? Correct? Thanks. Hoist! 8)

Well, I always thought the RK bags were waaaay bigger, but just went out to the garage and measured.

Not counting any area that would be in the top of either bag
It is like this;

RK  Front top;  6 1/2 "
RK  Back top; 5 1/2"
If you run straight down from the top the part that sweeps back is 6"
From bottom to top is 10"

EG Front top; 7 3/4
EG Back top; 7"
Part that sweeps back is 4"
From bottom to top is 11"

Those measurements are quick and rough, but at quick glance it would appear that the EG bags are much bigger than the RK Classic bags.  Now the hard bags have no give, that 6" in the sweep back is bigger than a quick measurement can say.  I am not going to fill them with water or rice to do a true scientific measurement, but when trying to pack more soft things - like clothes, the RK holds more than the EG does.

Wimmin, only thinking about how to carry more clothes - hair brushes - hair care products - makeup.................

I dropped my hard bags off to the painter this weekend.

Going to match the Cobalt blue paint and flames of the SERK.

Will post pics when they are done.

I believe it was Ben Franklin and the broken clock is right TWICE a day, (unless it is digital)

Thanks to member LEGENDCHROME, who had his father's SERK Hard Saddlebags painted, I've been in contact with this painter in Washington State for painting my SERK Hard Bags. LC had just the Flames done on the sides of the bags, as shown earlier in this thread. I've been discussing doing a more detailed "Matching Paint Scheme" for my bags, including the Pinstriped Bordered Marbling we have on the SERK gas tank and fenders. I've emailed him many detailed pics of my bike and he's going to go over them and come up with ideas. We discussed my ideas of what I thought would work, and he liked them. Hopefully we'll have a design finalized by the end of the week, and I'll ship my bags to him then. TNFatboy is also getting his B/I SERK hard bags done at the same time. When I get things finalized, I'll let you guys know. He can do the Red and Blue ones also, as well as matching TP's, etc. on other CVO's! He seems like a great guy who's got his act together. I'm confident from pics I've seen, and my discussions with him, that he can do a great job matching the SERK paint scheme for my bags! :2vrolijk_21:

Gene does a great job, he has done some pretty serious CVO matches in the past and they have all turned out great. I am sure you will be happy with the results.
