2004 SEEG upgrades
« on: June 04, 2020, 12:22:30 PM »

New guy and first post, I have done some searching and gotten some conflicting information...probably just me not understanding.

what "stage" is the SE 103 motor in these bikes?

Are basic upgrades such as intake and exhaust needed/worth it?

I was told intake/exhaust and a download would "wake the bike up"? Not that its all that bad as is.

Welcome to the site Mr_Jobe

The 2004/2005 SEEG really were not considered any particular stage since they came from the factory with unique heads and the 253 cam and unique exhaust when compared to the 88 inch non CVO bikes of the same vintage.  I guess like a current 117 CVO if stone stock would be considered stage 0.

Some folks changed pipes and changed the air filter and there was a Stage 1 download from Harley for that back in the day. Some of us went farther and changed cams, heads, pistons and throttle bodies and either came up and had the bikes dyno tuned.

Since the 103 of 2003 to 2006 was unique, and arguably one of the most reliable engines HD ever made, they generally will perform better than the 103 non CVO bikes that followed. This is due to the unique heads and cams. Many folks on here built reliable 90-100 horsepower bikes from this platform with little more than a performance exhaust, cam and a good tune. Plus the compensators generally held up much better than the 110's and the lifters if stock are better than the ones currently offered from Harley.

By the way
Which SEEG do you have and is it stock??

I miss my 04 huckleberry.   That was a great bike.  Might be my fav.  Kept it 8 years.   82000 miles when I sold her.  Good luck with your 04.      Stuart 👍

Welcome from the Heart of Dixie.

Needed? No. Worth it? Hell Yes!

I have an 04 SEEG with stock cams, open AC, V&H true duals w/ Eliminator 400’s and Fuel Moto Tuner.  I had it tuned a couple years ago and ended up with 96.88hp and 101.13tq.  The bike is a blast to ride.  Enjoy yours.

Its the Black and Blue model, and is pretty much stock is my understanding.  Stock AC and exhaust for sure.

I had a 2016 street glide jump out on me and I came around him with zero issue.

5,750 miles and she is cherry.

Thank you for the info. A lot of guys see "CVO" and assume it has to be a "stage something" because that's the Harley way.

Same color as mine, and in my opinion one of the all time best CVO paint schemes.
Mines been with me since 9-17-2003 and was the first 2004 model sold at the dealership I worked for back then.

Was one of the first bikes built as well because I ran a locator when the VIN showed up on delivery website and there were 8 others with VINs in the country at that time. Solid bike never had a warranty claim although I know a lot of folks did over chrome peeling and other issues.

Motor a long was from stock now.

Andy and I sittin high on our hogs in San Francisco back in early 04.

Welcome to the board Mr Jobe.  You might go to the SEEG (Screamin Eagle Electra Glide) board on this forum and go back to some of the earlier posts from 2004 and 2005 to see what most of us did.  Those 103" motors were a proven platform and it didn't take a whole lot to make them significantly faster.

I will tell you that with those skinnier tires and no ABS brakes, it's real easy to get yourself in a situation where that back wheel locks up and goes in what ever direction it takes a notion to.  Many of us have experienced it and some of us more than others.....
