Garage door opener functionality
« on: September 24, 2020, 12:45:43 PM »

FYI,  i ran into an oddity with the garage door opener functionality. I was rolling the bike backwards in neutral out of the garage. This takes me a bit as ever since my crash I don't have the strength in my legs to push it out very quickly .  I turned ignition on and flashed headlights and garage door opened and then I turn the ignition off to roll the bike backwards a little more out of the garage.   Bike was about halfway through the doorway when I hit the ignition switch again to fire it up and immediately the garage door started coming down. Flipped ignition switch off and on garage door went back up .

So, FYI, ignition switch can also operate garage door opener in some situations. Be aware

The garage door module on the bike sees the power drop from the headlight and reappear just like you flashed the headlight when you engage the starter on the bike. I’ve had it happen also.
Probably wouldn’t do that if the headlight was on low beam. I think the opener works off the high beam power.

Your explanation sounds like a good one.

It's just odd to me because I had the garage door opener on my 2004 FLHTCSE and never saw this issue in over 10 years of ownership.

I would've felt pretty damn silly if this gdoor would have come down on me and the the bike

Ha!

Thanks for the feedback

What He said. If I have my high beams on and hit the starter, it cycles the garage door.

Thanks a bunch for the heads up on this Dave.  Glad the garage door didn't land on you or your bike.  I'm surprised that I've never experienced this over the years because I've always used my bright light full time, since my accident twelve years ago.
