Twin Cam Mufflers
« on: May 16, 2024, 05:49:15 PM »

My 08 CVO 110 Roadking had true duals (Brand unknown) and Vance Hines trumpet type annoying mufflers. I tried some cheap Shark road mufflers that sounded good for one week long trip then the insides fell apart and rattled. I bought a pair of 66080-06A mufflers claimed to be 06 to 08 CVO Mufflers off E bay. They are quiet and I believe too restrictive and choking the motor down. I believe they have cats in them. What would I need to do to remove the cats from these mufflers? I called to order Fullsac power tubes and techmats, but they say they won't work for cat mufflers. The old Vance Hines mufflers ran fine but I couldn't handle the sound any more, so I'm thinking no Cats in these mufflers may get me what I'm looking for on a tight budget. Any advice would be appreciated.

There are still some 49 state cvo mufflers available on eBay that work great with Fullsac cores.
I have those in my 1995 and my 2019 now and have run them for years in all my baggers. With different size cores they will get that sound you want. They work well with the bigger engines as well.
Check Ronnie’s for the early part numbers I believe end in -00
Happy hunting.

I didn't think they started putting cats in bike exhaust until 2010  :nixweiss: If so and the ones you bought are 06-08, those aren't cats in them.

I removed one last night and looked inside. Didn't look like a baffle from either end. More like a Ying yang type divider length wise, half round hole looking in either side. At the end of the stamping on the outside, it says made in USA Catalyst. Removing anything inside doesn't look promising without knowing how it was fabricated to begin with. There are welds holding the flange around the exit side pipe much like Fullsac's baffle replacement procedure explains.

The early cat equipped cvo muffler has the cat attached to the baffle tube and the whole tube assembly will slide out after cutting the welds on the end plate at the outlet side. I’ve done this on CA mufflers in the past.
I have Some stock 49 state mufflers without the cat and you will not see the honeycomb cat looking down the inlet side of the cvo muffler only some steel baffles or plates.
I hope this helps some, HD has changed the inside of the cvo quite a bit over the years.
Steve at Fullsac has more information on those than most!

Appreciate the input Mike. It gets more confusing the more I look on E bay. I saw a couple 49 state listings. Couldn't navigate Ronnies too well. I read on another forum that at one point they were putting cat mufflers in the right muffler only. So your picture is a 09 ending part number which helps, but most listings either don't show this number or use some other part # from a book. I saw some with part numbers ending in 99. I would attempt gutting what I have, but it works for now and I need to talk to someone else at Fullsac beside Lisa to see if their baffles will work if I do gut them. I may pick up a set at a swap meet when I can hold them in my hand before spending money on the wrong thing again.

If you can post a clear pix from the both ends that might help. I have a set of CVO TC mufflers sitting on a shelf in the garage I no longer need. If they'd work for you, we can put something together. 65583-11 is the part number of the ones I have.
